While I don't doubt Salmonds claims are wildly exaggerated, and the UK would manage just fine without sharing, it certainly isn't zero.

Hundreds of English/Welsh/Irish based companys trade in Scotland, many with retail branches both sides of the border. Working with 2 different currencies is obviously going to add costs.

RE: Scottish Independence
simplest way would be to call it the scottish pound give it parity with the pound and by act of parlimant make it legal tender in the uk

what westminister is ojecting to is Salmond wanting currency union with the UK whereby he keeps all the good things about being in the Uk ie low interest rates, a good credit rating and the fact that if his little project goes wrong he can go cap in hand to the Bank of England for Free money

got a question for anyone from northern ireland or Ireland what happens in the case with northern and southern ireland i mean do you have to carry both euros and the pound or are both accepted ?

Some Hotels/Restuarants may accept the pound in Southern Ireland but most businesses prefer to be paid in Euros as that is the official currency

both are accepted (notes) but if you use sterling in a pub in the south it's pound for pound so it's wise to change your money to euro's.

in a southern pub £1 = 1 euro
in a pub in the north 1 euro = 60-70p

I am sure if they have their own currency it will afford them greater flexibility to respond in times of Economic turmoil. I am also sure they will cope on their own but if they go they go it should be a clean break with no dependency on Westminster. I think it will be a No vote in any event a lot of the Under 30's are not so hung up on Independence and are happy as part of the Union .

However they have a clown in the SNP Nicola Sturgeon bleating on that Scotland has been part of the EU for 40 years. No Nicola its the UK that was part of the EU! Stupid Ho!

I don't think inventing our own currency is a realistic option. If it's not the pound it will have to be the euro.

But yeah, Sturgeon, the only person in the government who makes Eck look good bladewave

But Scotland don't meet the required criteria for entry into the euro, and couldn't do so for at least 2 years.
