Gather round kids, Knighthood season is once again upon us. The esteemed honourees include
Mohamed Mansoor - Billionaire businessman & Tory party donor, who was a minister in Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak's regime, with links to Russia & who's firm recently paid a seven figure sum to HMRC after an investigation
Christopher Chope - MP who bloked bills on free hospital parking for carers, protection for tenants from being unfairly evicted & the bill to make upskirting an offence
Philip Davies - MP & GB News presenter who joined with Chope in blocking all 3 of those bills, talked for 90 mins in the commons in an attempt to filibuster a bill on domestic violence, suggested disabled people could work for less than the minimum wage, suggested that black people are more likely to be murderers & that same sex marriage discriminates against gay people
Mark Spencer - MP who was accused by Nusrat Ghani MP that he told her, her muslim faith played a role in her sacking. An investigation by Sunak's ethics adviser could not establish these claims but did not criticise or express doubt about Ghani's version of events & did note shortcomings in Spencer's behaviour towards Ghani.
Some people will be tempted to say that they are all corrupt & as bad as each other & whilst there is evidence of this (cash for honours) there are also levels to it, in the 13 yrs of government from 97 Labour gave 11 knight/damehoods to sitting MPs. Since 2010 the number of sitting Tory MPs to receive knight/damehoods now stands at 108
