I've obviously missed the finer details - I thought "we're merging LIV and PGA" meant that there wasn't going to still be 2 separate entities. I mean, what would kind of bloody merger is that?

The merger was agreed in principle in June, with a deadline of December 31st 2023. Time is short & there's talk of a big US backer which could scupper the deal.
There was also an agreement that until the deal is done LIV wouldn't be able to poach anymore PGA players. This has since been rescinded by the US Department of Justice.

so coukld we now be seeing a third breakaway? and did LIV get the Dept of Justice involved?

Apparently Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton have both rejected offers to join LIV.
