Carlos Alcaraz is the US Open mens singles champion after a 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 victory over Casper Ruud.

The 19 year old Spaniard takes over as the new World number one while the Norwegian is left to reflect on a second defeat in a slam final.
Lily Miyazaki, British #7, has qualified for the US Open, which is good because Liam Broady sustained his track record of never qualifying for the main draw.
A wonderful day for the Brits on day two.

Andy Murray, Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper, Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage ALL won in straight sets to reach round two.

Burrage perhaps the most impressive victory of the lot against a higher ranked player in the form of Anna Blinkova.
Miyazaki won on Monday, earning a life-changing sum in prize money, though she got beat by Belinda Bencic today.
Katie Boulter has got through to round 3, but Andy Murray got beat.
Jack Draper won in straight sets but Jodie Burrage was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka in two sets.
Norrie and Evans I think also made it.
Next up for Evans......... Carlos Alcaraz.

Gulp.
Evans out.
Norrie out.
Boulter out.

Draper the only Brit left in the singles.
Well done Draper, then. Boulter would next have met Vondrousova, so it was likely only a matter of time.
