For my 4,500th post a tasty treat from yesteryear-the Harlequin Gateau cake, or rather the box. For years I thought it was jam sponge but no it was chocolate but it was my favourite tea time treat as a kid and not by Kipling at all but McVities(who make the digestive biscuits)

Never tried it. What was it like?
(From personal memory-delicious and we had it for tea or birthdays I seem to recall)
And now...its Friday...its 5 to 5(or 4.55pm to you) and its...

Ah yes Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart(sadly died in 2017) and Bernie Clifton, Peter Glaze and I don't remember Jan Hunt. Later it was Stu 'oooh I could crush a grape' Francis, the Krankies and an upbeat Chas and Dave version of the theme tune. Before that it was first presented by Eamonn Andrews, Ronnie Corbett(who also wrote sketches) and later Leslie Crowther.
From the pic on the left you can see one of the most popular games-Double or Drop, in which kids had to hold their prizes for the length of the game, but if they dropped any, they got a cabbage! Amazingly after all this time it is coming back to the BBC albeit on CBBC and iPlayer next year hosted by Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes(who make Ant and Dec look like a bunch of amateurs)
Now who do you think this is? I can tell you that he went on to bigger and better things and that he and the other boys is wearing my school uniform(now long since gone) I'll leave you to think about it. Tell ya later if you're stuck.

The Cloudbase Angels, courtesy of cut-outs from the Radio Times when it was shown on BBC2 in the 90's. Symphony and Destiny Angel have swapped apparently.

These are two of the original comics that came out later-the first has been sealed up for 20 odd years in a zip lock bag!

Judging by the hair styles I’d say that photo is from sometime between 1972 and 1976...

So you’re talking about 43 years ago minimum...kids in the picture between 8 and 11 years old..which would make him between 51 and 54 years old now...

It’s you isn’t it?
Big Grin noooooooooo that was well before I went to that school although my sister was there before me. I attended the lower school in 1978-79 when I was 12-13. The only link is the school and yes he is 51. In 1972 I was 6 and 1976 10 respectively so can't be me and I never had long hair either- you cheeky scamp! Big Grin
