Been watching Sky News coverage, a lot of people have been saying its just a bit of sun other countries have to deal with the same or worse regularly. The difference being that those countries have the infrastructure to deal with.

In one segment where a reporter visited an official weather station is Exeter a member of The Met was explaining how the official temperatures we get are shade temps because they are the most consistent (who remembers being taught about the Stevenson box at school?). As we all know from getting in a car that has been sitting in direct sun its a lot hotter than the official temp.

There was a second thermometer next to the Stevenson box placed on top of concrete & whilst the Stevenson box was reading 30 something degrees the direct sunlight one was registering 52 degrees. If the projected 40c is hit the ground temp in direct sunlight could exceed 60.

Our infrastructure is just not set up for that, trains are being told to travel af half speed incase the tracks buckle. Someone from the RAC was on saying that they expect at least a 20% increase in calls relating to tyre blowouts.

Furthermore in these countries a lot of people have air con units in their homes, something few of us obviously have here but may be needed particularly for older people.

We are used to harsh NHS winters, the future may include harsh NHS summers.
Went to the beach today and it was fuckin dead hot Smile

Last time it was like this in 2019 I was stuck in a traffic Jam outside Birmingham on the way to a job in Wales...
Update RAF have suspended all flights in and out of their largest air base, Brize Norton, as the runway "has melted"
Suffolk topped the temperature charts at 38.1 c today, I wondered why I was so hot even prince Andrew would sweat in my garden today.eek
Chloe Brimicombe, a Heatwave PHD researcher (who knew there was such a thing), tells Sky news that by 2050 temps above 35c will be seen every year & by the end of the century 5 to 7,000 people will die every year, in Britian alone as a result of the heat.

Why this heatwave differs from 1976

I've had a few claps of thunder followed by heavy rainfall this afternoon, thank fuck, back to normal in the west of Scotland Big Grin
^ Still waiting over here on the east coast for the weather to break fully, had a tiny bit of rain earlier but it fucked off and dried within five minutes, this shit needs to do one. 30C according to the Met yesterday and the same today, nope, Scotland above 15C just feels wrong. lol.
