The nominees will be revealed on The One Show tonight. I fancy one of Mark Cavendish, Darren Clarke or Alastair Cook to take home the big award.

Predictions?
Personally I think Cav should win it. An Amazing year by the Nancy missile. And he actually has a personality.
I would agree with Mark Cavendish winning the award. He has had a year of high achievement and excellent consistency.
So the shortlist is:

Mark Cavendish
Alastair Cook
Mo Farah
Amir Khan
Andy Murray
Darren Clarke
Luke Donald
Dai Greene
Rory McIlroy
Andrew Strauss

and a stunning missus too Smile, think cavendish will win
1 cavendish 2 mo farrah 3 one the 3 golfers.

andy murray, amir khan are only there to make the numbers up. strauss and cook played against 2 poor teams and won where has cavendish, farrah and the 3 golfers had to beat the best to win.
Cavendish deserves it followed by any two of the golfers. I'd probably put McIlroy second because of the way he came back from the collapse at Augusta to win the US Open.
All the women's libbers are up in arms because there aren't any females on the short list. But is there anyone who deserves to be included?

Cavendish to win as there will be a split vote for the golfers.

Cavendish will be lead on to the stage by Martin and Rendell and will only show when the trophy is in sight.Smile

The Sunday Times had a piece bemoaning that there were no women on the shortlist and highlighted Chrissy Wellington, the World Ironman Triathlon champion. Inside they announced the four nominees for their Sportswoman of the Year award. Wellington wasn't one of them.
The fact is that outside of an Olympic year women's sport simply doesn't get the same exposure that men's sport does - I guarentee right now that if she wins gold next year Jess Ennis will be Sports Personality 2012. If the papers want more women on the shortlist they should cover their performances more.
