I was in work looking over the news when I stumbled across this little ditty.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/11/26/...y_meeting/

So when exactly are we going to be treated like adults? And when are they going to stop trying to police the internet?
I actually don't have an issue with this, as long as it gives the control to the parents to apply to their own computers, and it's not something that the government puts there against our will.

Children should be protected against much of the internet trash, because there is plenty of it that's very harmful, even to many adults.

Seeing a nude female on the adult channels in a solo show or 2-4-1 won't harm a child, but seeing the extreme material online can certainly do much harm.

There is a HUGE difference between what most of us would be content with seeing on the adult channels, than there is to what we all can access online.

Giving the parents a type of software to censor out the bad stuff on the internet is a great idea, as many kids are online these days and free to accidentally come across questionable material that disgusts even myself Smile

Even at the most explicit, the adult channels will never come close to what we can see online.
Filters dont work. They have been in Internet Explorer since the early days, but even Government departments dont bother setting age ratings on their own websites. Make filters compulsory and the mass of websites out there from the past 20 years will all be blocked - and the owners will never know.

Want to look up side effects of medicine? Today you can search and find info from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, etc. Set UK or Euro filters and that will be blocked.

Want to check if that school trip to Asia is safe? Your kid wont be able to access pages for info with honest accurate info from people who have been there.

And does she really think the UK Government will get away with blocking European websites? No way. So it wont be possible to block German, Dutch or French hardcore, including the pervy stuff.

And as for making the ISPs responsible, yeah, why not. And while at it make BT, O2, ec liable for the content of phone calls. And Samsung, Sony etc liable for the pictures that come up on the screens of TVs they sell.

The minister will make soothing noises, tell Ms Perry not to worry her pretty little head, pat her on the head and send her away.
Unfortunately if the internet does start getting policed, this country is just too unmotivated and apathetic enough to let it happen, which luckily I don't think it will. ISP's will resist until a few cave in, but these people's dreams of ISP's monitoring and restricting every single packet of data is stupidly unrealistic.

When are these people going to finally place the responsibility of children with the parents. Just leave people alone, leave the internet alone, leave pornography alone, leave video games alone, leave comedians alone; let people live their own free lives and raise their own children in their own free way, in a free society.
I agree. I think the parents should be the ones to decide how to monitor what their children do. I'm all for an option of censorship that parents can chose, because of the harmful material I mentioned, but I'm not for the governement making and implementing a decision like this for us, because they shouldn't be the ones to decide for us.
Ofcom will soon regulate the Post Office too, so expect to see postmen fined for delivering Freemans catalogues.

Well then also expect these do-gooding pressure groups to demand Royal Mail open and read every single letter that passes through them - that's essentially what they want the ISP's to do, and just as logistically stupid.
What the fuck's going on in this country are we fast becoming the new China. Just to reiterate we live in a democracy and with that brings freedom of choice and all censorship does is violate our basic human rights. We live in the heart of Europe and let's not forget it.
Interesting BBC article today about blocking porn on the internet

Thats what you thought. Once these pratts get away one thing they will start on all the others. You wont live in a free society you will live in their society and under their rules. Has anybody vetted these people who are to make these decisions and impose their rules on us. How do we know what type of mindset these people have because it sounds to me like thay want to force us all to conform to their views and the Ideas of a minority of stuck up shit heads. Bet you X-factor had more complaints last week than the babe channels
