Jesus, now that's a blast from the past. I used that program more than 15 years ago. Surprised It was just called Irfan then though.

It was, a cracking little package. I used it to rip AVI's, as you could tell the program to rip every frame from a video, and save it as a jpg. Big Grin

I had no idea it was still going.

Cheers.

I have to admit I've never actually tried it as I have Photoshop on the Desktop and PaintShop pro on the laptop, but plenty of people rave about Irfanview.

Another option to those suggested (which are all good progs too) is XnView. I use it mainly becuase the batch convertion is brilliant. Oh yeah and because it`s totally free Smile

Hello, forgive me if this has been asked before. I have had a quick read through the threads and can not find the exact answer I want so here goes. I am able to transfer recordings I have made on freesat recorder to my lap top. These are in MPEG2-TS format which I am able to play on Windows Media Player. Sometimes complete with sound as not (not sure why yet) but that is not the issue.
My question is having loaded then on to my PC what is the best (I would prefer free!) software for producing caps. I am rather new to all this and did produce a few using the MS Live Video Maker but it was all very tedious. Wonder if any easier / quicker was available.
Any guidance or link to better threads to look at would be very much appreciated. Cheers
Your best option for free would be to use vlc player!! As you can play your video, pause it and hit the Snapshot button to capture a still image. Otherwise i have posted a reply on another thread wioth more advanced software for recording and capping.

Thanks very much. I have already recorded it and transferred it to my laptop. I will download the VLC player and give it a go cheers. I like to start up loading as I enjoy the caps on here and be good to give something back. My one worry is my laptop configuration may not be up to it but as I say will give it a shot.

Just a little tip regarding the snapshots.. in the video section for the capture options change the saved image to jpeg and not PNG as PNG is rather large in size for uploading (some picture hosts refuse PNG for uploading) and placing onto the forum posts. Any probs PM me and i can help with the settings for you if you get stuck Wink
As you may have seen i have not been posting many caps for a while except for in the Sexy Saturday thread.

The reason for this is because i use MS Paint to cap (Print screen, cut to size, save) which is time consuming, but thats not the only problem, every time i try to save in MS Paint it crashes, i get a message saying

"Paint is not responding" then "Paint is restarting" & every time it restarts it's a new blank page.

So as I'm unable to cap, I'd like some advise from fellow cappers...

1.) How do you cap
2.) Is there any easier way of caping than the one I used
3.) If you use my method have you had this problem before

Thank you

Jess

Sorry to hear about your problems Sad

I "Print" the screen and then use IrfanView to crop, you can repeat the same crop on many captures, sharpen etc before saving.

I use Debut Video Capture (free version) for caps (and general screen-shots.) Links to it can be found here. (I can't remember which one I downloaded.)

With Debut, you just draw a rectangle on the PC screen where you want to take screen shots of (or record video, but I never have any luck with that) and just keep pressing a button to make as many screen caps as you want. If you use TVGirlGallery for hosting caps, you can use that to re-size caps to whatever size you want.

I believe it's easier than MS Paint method ,as each cap will be the same size, and only be of the webstream rather than the whole page (provided you draw a box just where the webstream is located on screen.)

It's the first program I tried over 2 years ago, and still the only one I use frequently.
