Whatever happens in the leadership contest, could the gender bill have an effect on the next Scottish elections and would the SNP vote go down? I'm sitting on the fence on the leadership contest outcome but it does seem like it could become quite an interesting one to watch and keep an eye on. I think whoever wins will probably have a hell of job in convincing the populatiion of Scotland that the bill is necessary but I doubt Westminster would attempt to pull the section 35 trick a second time. In terms of Ms Forbes' comments I wonder if many ordinary Scots share the same views as hers, but in any case I do think many probably many probably think that they are views she should keep private.

Yes you did, in a very SNP-like way. "We know best and you should just do as we say and fall into line otherwise you're just a *insert appropriate insult here*".

Much like their referendum campaign that fell on it's arse.

What you, and they, don't seem to grasp, is that getting the bill into law isn't the end of it. If they can't find a way to carry public opinion with them on this (and I mean carry, not bully) then resentment against the bill will just fester and inevitably spill over into resentment against the Trans community.
The way the press, and the opposition, were tying Sturgeon in knots over the Isla Bryson thing is having the same effect. It's things like that, that feeds your narrative of minority groups being tarred with the same brush as the worst in society. And the governments inability to allay the genuine, even if misguided, fears the general public might have over the GRRB is just adding to it.

Imo the nature of the crime should have trumped everything, with Bryson, and it would have been a non-story.

Leaving aside the nature of Forbes' comments for a minute, it shows the hypocrisy of those in Parliament who backed her and then dropped her like she was on fire.
It's impossible to believe they didn't already know what her views were. Were they just hoping she'd keep her mouth shut till the campaign was over?

Hypocrisy indeed.

A certain Ian Blackford is also a member of the Free Church of Scotland and it’s reasonable to assume he holds similar views yet he was allowed to head the SNP at Westminster without so much as a murmur.

That's a poll of voters not members

Sometimes governments should lead and not follow. Civil rights is one of those issues, woman, African Americans, Gay people suffered for decades waiting public opinion to catch up with what was right. Countries around the world had already done what was right, Spain has done it since Scotland tried, Germany will attempt it soon. As i said trans people are some of the most vulnerable in society, amongst those most likely to contemplate/commit suicide, human beings should not have to wait for public opinion to validate their existence and alleviate the enviroment that makes many of them want to end said existence. The right time to do the right thing is now.

One can't help wonder if after 15 yrs of making them a juggernaught, Independance might do to The SNP what Europe, has done to the Tories
