The State of the UK Union in 2022

Like her or loathe her, she had a belief that Scotland would be better off outside the UK, and despite everything thrown at her, never deviated from that core belief and the campaigning to back it up!

Personally, I still think that it doesn't quite feel democratic to have an English Parliament and an English PM (more often than not regardless of party - yes G Brown for 5 mins but he was parachuted - undemocratic in itself - and others likewise) deciding whether a nation can or cannot stay within the UK. In addition, I find it rather ironic, as I firmly believe that at the first opportunity, that same PM (or his successor) will wave goodbye to us in NI if the population/votes fall a particularly way, without much of an effort/campaign to persuade us to stay!

Forbes might be back for votes but Swinney's still standing in as Finance Secretary.

I used to think Sturgeon was a decent politician, even if I didn't agree with her, but the last couple of years have been one fuck-up after another. This is long overdue.

She was right about one thing. A lot of people now hate her guts so much it was affecting the independence campaign.

The big worry now, from that point of view, is that they might elect someone likeable.

A lot of the support for independence comes from people who might otherwise be described as right wing conservative. They hold their nose and vote SNP because they want independence.

A Kate Forbes type figure would suit them just fine.

Yes but in order to win a straight yes/no referendum you need to appeal to a majority of voters therefore your project needs to be a big tent. Enthusiasm for Indy is most prevelant in younger voters who put more stock in social issues than their older peers. Evangelic Christianity and big tentism do not go well together

The thing with big tents is, it's hard to keep tabs on everyone. While they're luring the young in one side, a lot of the older, and female, voters are bailing out the other over her handling of the transgender bill.

There were some rumours flying around about the time of the Queens death that were never reported. They seem to be resurfacing again, but I better not repeat them as it's allegedly the subject of a super injunction
