The company are an absolute disgrace but I don't really have much sympathy for the women either. In 99% of cases it's a completely unnecessary procedure to undergo and they're potentially putting their health/life at risk for selfish reasons that go way beyond needing to put man-made garbage inside their bodies.

i agree damncencorship and i fail to see why the taxpayer should pay to have them removed as the majority of these girls had the implants in the hope of earning more money in the adult industry

They whole process about removing and replacing the implants should be financed by the company who caused the problem... PIP
The government need to pass on all costs.

Including any compensation claimed by the girls themselves.

Unfortunately PIP (no pun intended) went bust several years ago, so you won't get anything out of them. The clinics and hospitals who used them presumably acted in good faith, because as I understand it, ALL medical equipment, drugs and supplies have to be "approved" by some clinical board before they can be used on people. Unless they knew that they were faulty, of course, and that would be a whole different matter.....

We're talking thousands of woman that have had these implants, a minority of which will be in the adult industry earning good money. Most are just everyday women with normal jobs who've had them for personal reasons - either to give themselves a confidence boost or to correct an aesthetic problem they've had. They had the implants in good faith after being led to believe they were safe, so I don't think they should be punished for the wrongdoings of the company. Plus many of them won't be able to afford to get them removed privately, and they can't just be left there in the hope they won't leak.

Besides, if you view cosmetic surgery complications as self inflicted and something the NHS shouldn't cover - what about heavy drinkers, smokers and the obese?

And the French government has said that it would pay up to £50 million for the removal surgery and sue PIP for damages.

It's also reported that PIP made male chest and testicle implants filled with the same contaminated silicone gel.

The male prosthetic implants were "exported overseas" but it was not known how many men around the world had been supplied with the cosmetic enhancements.

What a self righteous comment to make! You know that for fact do you ? Or is that a generalisation based on personal opinion ?

I need not go in to one too much as I think NHawk has put it rather eloquently and said all that needs to be said. Let's hope for your sake you are neither a heavy drinker, smoker and or obese. Other wise you will look like a complete fucking hypocrite then wouldn't you?!

French police this morning arrested Jean-Claude Mas, the founder of the breast implant company PIP at the centre of an international health scare.

Mas was arrested over an investigation opened in December in the southern port of Marseille into the health implications of PIP's breast implants. Police are investigating possible charges of homicide and involuntary harm.
