Just imagine we'd have access to sexysat tv and also eurotic tv as well as the existing uk babe channels and so would the Germans. Probably to bypass the ofcom regualtions you would probably only be able to watch the German channels by manually scanning them into the other channels section on the sky box and guess what ofcom would be powerless to this as its not illegal to pick up a signal from another country.

Sky used to be 19.2 degrees, and the Euro porn channels were well known. At the time it was a big part of the attraction, though few husbands admitted it to their wives. Then Sky moved lock stock and barrel to 28 degrees, a previously unused slot, and had it all to themselves. Presumably they gave Astra a shedload of money to get the slot to themselves. Can't see them reversing that decision.

Also as ScottishBloke says, Sky channels are optimised for the UK and can get by with 60cm dishes (80cm oop North). A lot of the Euro channels are aimed well away from the UK so any signal we get is on the edge of the footprint and therefore weaker - a 1m or even 1.2m dish might be needed.

For me if they shared the 19.2 slot again commercially they would actually make more money infact millions as they would be able to sell sky tv all throughout europe as well as share each others channels. Having the 28 degree slot to yourself is madness.

Cheers for that link, I have a ladder suitable for turning the dish and I have signal metre, might give that a go tomorrow.

That sort of madness made Sky £1.2 Billion last year.

As for Broadcasting across Europe it's unlikely to ever happen. They'd need to buy Broadcast licenses and most European Countries are a bit more protective than the UK. Then there's the not inconsiderable problem of Studios wanting a hell of a lot more money for cross-Europe broadcast rights.

FACT. Here is a link also for proof. http://www.pirmasoft.com/astra/e_digital_tv.htm

I did not say you can't receive any non uk sky channels with your sky box. I said you can't receive channels with a signal rate other than 27500. For 19.2E that includes Sexysat and Eurotic TV. Try looking at http://www.kingofsat.net to see what you are missing out on. With a modest 80-90cm dish you can pick up channels from at least a dozen satellites, more the further you go south.

I know it's a point that I've kept making on various forums over the years, but why do we assume that the broadcasters themselves want to show 'harder' material?? I've believed for a long time that, so long as they all play by the same rules, it doesn't really matter what those rules are from a TV company's point of view.

If you ignore all of the marketing guff about wanting to show extreme hardcore etc, I think there's no desire to go strong. They may even be avoiding it, for once they go hardcore, I suspect they may fear being swamped by the continental European channels and the financial muscle that they have.

Latest list of complaints made against the babe channels. Three of the complaints have already been investigated by Ofcom (Bulletin 165) and the broadcaster found in breach. Amazingly one complaint against Tease Me TV was found not to be in breach. Is this a turning point.

I don't know about the most recent Elite one, but the daytime show highlighted above featured Alice wearing this little number:
