Not long now before the long awaited return of GGG against Morata. Maybe a step closer to the widely anticipated/hoped for third fight with Canelo should Genady come through this (and of course canelo himself overcome Dmitry Bivol) - if not, perhaps the end of the line for a stellar career, and one of the most decent men the sport has had the good fortune to see enter the ring. Handy time to watch too on DAZN with the time difference in Japan.

Great fight between two worthy champions. It looked - in the early stages - that GGG may indeed be on the wrong end of the outcome. Not because he was hurt by Murata, but the cumulative effect - particularly of the body shots would ware him down. Far from it!! once he found his range and got through with his shots, he had the upper hand. The finish was text book Golovkin, although Maybe Murata's corner threw the towel in a little soon??

It was so good to be able to watch such a clean (yes a few gentle reminders from the ref) technically excellent fight, with great respect shown by the two fighters for each other!!

Wow Connor Benn won inside 2 rounds to retain his continental title and think he deserves a world title shot at some point, but thinking he has to fight someone possibly in the top five or a top rated American who push him further to develop enough to cope with a world title shot. Def do think there is a lot of Nigel Benn in him judging by his punching power. There is talk of him taking on Kell Brook but I would say that is a fight for him very much later in his
career.

He was pretty impressive to be fair!! Agreed with Bellow and Froch that 'steady as she goes'. We can't be sure of the calibre of this guy last night, but you can only beat whoever is in front of you!. It means though that Benn needs to keep stepping up the food chain against better and better each time obviously, but not race ahead, and find he has to re - group (in boxing it could against an opponent he would be expected to beat) and start again!

Benn is impressive but the Welterweight division is stacked. Crawford and Spence are both pound for pound top rankers who need to fight to see who is king. I put Benn in the group of dangerous youngsters with Boots Ennis and Vergil Ortiz.

Avanesyan or Thurman would be legit tough fights for Benn and both fights I’d love to see. However “bigger” name fights against Mickey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Broner would be easier but get him more clout in America even though I think they are easier fights.

I am not so convinced that Danny Garcia, in particular, would be the easiest of fights. Among the best - up - and - coming is where I too would see Benn.

Crawford V Spence?? I would go to some length to be there for that one!! I still - given his determination to go for multiple belts at multiple weights - hanker for Crawford/Canelo but I guess that is just a reality between the hours of 11pm and 7 am - a dream unfortunately!!

Garcia has always come up short against the very best, yes he’s a former world champ but at 34 he’s not getting better and he’s been inactive since losing to Spence in 2020. I’d make that fight tomorrow for Benn!

Do think Fury V Whyte is going to be the closest of us having at all British World HW title fight for sometime, and at least would mean keeping one version of the HW title in UK. I would be stunned if Fury retired after this but I am sure many will push to get Fury against the winner of Joshua - Usyk when it happens. If the fight went down to the wire, a draw would be shocking result, but have sneaking suspicion Fury to get fight ended in 10 rounds.

I am on board with both those observations. Surely unfinished business for Fury?? Would he really be content to walk away without having tried to unify?? or be a part of what would be - despite AJ starting all over again - the biggest British fight - perhaps ever? Something I must confess I do not see tonight's bout as being, despite the crowd numbers!

As an aside, Firstly, the undercard is underwhelming and secondly, I hope John Rawling is not ill again?? Maybe he has the big fight and we just haven't heard from him yet, but if not - I wonder where he is??

Fury for me ( Round 7 - 8)

^You was close mate Fury stopped Whyte before end of round 6 and has now retired and that probably makes it easier for AJ to regain the title if he beats Usyk I don't know who would meet for the vacated title in the meantime, but I do hope there is British interest in any fight. I think it is sad for British boxing as whole that Fury & AJ never met in the ring simply because that would have probably would been by far the biggest payday for them both and the biggest HW fight in Britain for many years to come. Whether Fury would come out of retirement to just fight AJ if the offer was made by Eddie Hearn, I'm not so sure.
And would Fury have even anything to prove anything other than maybe he was a better boxer than AJ? I doubt Fury's thrown a far better punch than that uppercut that ended that fight last night what a way to end your career!! Kudos to Whyte for going that far and for gthe way he took the fight to Fury, I think he deserves far more credit than he gets as a boxer.
