Kate Forbes turns down a position in the cabinet in what would be a demotion to rural affairs and will join the back benches.

Not a great start on the party unity front, Yousaf can at least claim he offered her a role in the cabinet but i would imagine her supporters will see such a downgrade as a slap in the face for a former finance minister who got nearly half the membership votes on 2nd preferences.

Will be really interesting to see where the party goes from here whether it can return to the not long passed days of discipline or whether the election means the toothpaste is out the tube ?

Warm words are a good start but thats the easy part, what happens when policies that she disagrees with start being put forward, legislation that she might vote against, if the SNP's polling & support for Indy start to dip & Labour gain ground ?

Hmm... If he was really serious about what was best for the country, he'd have offered her the job she had. Could be the Greens pulling his strings already though, because they wouldn't want to work with her. Maybe she's better out of it though, if there's a lot of shit coming down the track with the police investigation and other stuff.

All the talk of the vote being close at a 52-48 split masks the fact that a majority of members didn't want Yousaf as their first choice. They're all conveniently glossing over that now though.

Anyway, I suspect the continuity candidate means the continuity of the same old fuck-ups

I think Forbes' time will come eventually. She'll just sit back with her popcorn for now. Arguably she wasn't ready for it just now anyway. Nobody expected Sturgeon to resign the way she did.
