Rory McIlroy has announced he plans to play for Ireland at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016...

I never knew it was an Olympic event

the big choice for him was to play for great britain or ireland. there will be a few from his local golf club that will disown him for that decision. fair play to him.

A big gold medal hope for Ireland surely.

And he recenty finished with his beautiful girlfriend.. He's not good on decisions is he

But I'm unsure what the Olympic event is ?
Is it a team, match play or a singles Championship.

If it's a team event then Graham Mcdowell may join him.

mcdowell has chosen ireland as well.

After checking Terence's link then the event is just for individuals.
And just two to be chosen on their World rankings.

So Graham McDowell wouldn't get picked in the top two for Team GB

Rankings. Rory is 6th, Justin is 10th, Luke is 17th and Graham is 22nd

So the IOC has a big decision to make in the next few days or weeks :-
Do we move the Olympics from Rio?

^ It's too late to move it. Where else in the world could be ready in such a short time? It's either Rio or nowhere & the World Health Organisation have already rejected the call t move it.
