Manchester Utd's loss to Grimsby Town in the League Cup was their first ever defeat to a fourth tier club. The previous closest to that was in 1995 they were beaten by York City, also in the League Cup, who at the time were second bottom of the third tier.

I think even Nostradamus might have seen trouble coming for a shaky club supposedly turning over a new leaf, but who then couldn't put Fulham away - and drawn to play a can't-lose game against a club well off their usual radar. They did well to recover from 2-0 down. But not well enough to finish the job.

both Jose and Ole are free Tongue Tongue

RE: Manchester United FC - Doddle - 29-08-2025 13:33

They shouldn't have got Jose in last time, and they shouldn't have got shot of Ole when they did.

It is amazing they made 4 managers last 41 years, and they've been largely hopeless since. Especially when rival clubs can usually turn up 1 or 2 or sometimes several world class guys, MU just can't (and Jose was more trouble than he was worth).

RE: Manchester United FC - Whynot - 29-08-2025 14:06

Everybody knew the two goalies were not up to it! All 4 goals conceded this season would’ve been stopped by any average keeper! How different it would look with 4pts and a cup win. Whoever decided not to get a proper goalie needs sacking

To clarify one point regarding the penalty shoot-out against Grimsby, new striker Sesko did not take a penalty until Man Utd's 10th kick because he was suffering from cramp.
