^^

Apparently our Rach took advice from the estate agent regarding the need for a license!

Perhaps if you are a high profile politician who may face some scrutiny, perhaps if you are the chancellor who may face intense scrutiny, perhaps you should be seeking more professional advice than flash Larry the local estate agent!
Like maybe you could afford the advice of a more qualified property lawyer, or perhaps you, or someone in your team of paid helpers and advisors could just, maybe, contact the local council and ask nicely ...

Nevermind, lets all lift up that carpet while slimy starmy sweeps it away bladewave

There's not going to be an investigation either. This could bubble on for some time.

Also was this actually her house or a second home courtesy of the tax payer?

Surely it's part of the letting agency's job to find out if selective licensing is required and let her know to apply. It's another absurd piece of inconsistent red tape, that needs to be done away with to be honest.

She campaigned for a licensing scheme in Leeds. A sensible person would wonder if a similar scheme applied in the area in which they were planning to rent out a house.....

Looks like they're trying to pin it on the Letting Agent. IMVHO, Joe Public would expect to be guided by someone in an office on the High Street, but the holder of one of the Great Offices of State should be ensuring that they're whiter than white no matter which Party they represent.

The letting agent 'fessed up and apologised.

Now I'm no fan of Reeves, far from it, but the amount of holier-than-thou guff I've seen and heard today about this is ridiculous.
Yes, in an ideal world she should've double checked everything herself. But if you employ a professional to do a job, it's not unreasonable to expect them to be competent in their field of expertise.
You don't keep a dog and bark yourself...

Totally different situation to Raynor, who was actually told to get further advice, and didn't bother her arse.
