RE: The BBC - lovebabes56 - 19-05-2025 16:23 I would still say while he has apologised for what he did I just wonder if he had researched things a bit more carefully he probably would have realised that it's something he shouldn't have posted. I will agree Stu, that you're right that he didn't do it while he was on MOTD, he did it in his own time, but he should have ensured there was no problem in posting outside MOTD. Some of will probably think that he jumped before he was pushed. I think it will be quite a while before he shakes that millstone free. TBH we will all have our own views on things like that and some of us choose to keep our mouths and brains shut. Are you having a laugh. I'll fuck off then stall I. I was actually thinking about it & stuff like this makes me think it's a good idea. So easy to misconstrue & twist words. Granted I'm not the best at putting across my opinion, my post was a little clumsy. Strange that I get accused of being against freedom of speech & then immediately after I can't have my say. ![]() I don't think I should have to explain myself. however I completely missed the bit where I said I didn't like Lineker. What I believe is that his position at the BBC carries responsibility & him & others should be more careful about what they say as they are trusted & have influence on many people. I have a mistrust for the BBC & equally, what you describe as Independent platforms, both dangerous. ![]() RE: The BBC - Tumble_Drier - 19-05-2025 20:56 Well well, I hadn't realised old Jug Lugs had finally gone too far until I read the last few posts on this thread, I haven't seen much news over the last few days. It was however, inevitable. Lineker and his ilk manage to operate under a Holier-Than-Thou shield but sooner or later the mask slips and their true colours show through. You would think someone with years of media experience would take the time to actually check out what they're sharing on social media, but their over confidence in their own faux intelligence is always their undoing. RE: The BBC - southsidestu - 20-05-2025 20:14 What i got from your post was that he shouldn't be talking about subjects that aren't related towards sports because thats not his area of expertise & its not what he is paid to do. Which part of that did i get wrong ? So I made the point that since what he was saying was in his private time, on a private platform & not on tax payers money he should be allowed to do that freely & that there is a double standard because what he is doing is the same as what you & everyone else here are doing which is expressing our views despite not being experts. I also never accused you of being against freedom of speech & i never said you can't have your say. There is fundamental lack of understanding from free speech warriors who think freedom of speech is freedom from scrutiny & challenge, which it most definitely isnt. When it has all died down we'll all be wondering just how much of a battering the BBC's reputation has taken. I saw some newspapers yesterday were claiming that ITV were looking to sign him for their coverage but I actually think he probably feels he is pretty much done with being on TV for a while and just needs the space. I have watched his podcast with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards a fair bit, and it's a good entertaining podcast too, which I'm sure will focus on the Club World Cup when it kicks off. |
