RE: Snooker - Snooks - 05-05-2014 20:04 I remember matches between Eddie Charlton and Cliff Thorburn back in the day. In the time Ronnie can make a century Eddie would have looked at about 20 safety shots and chalked his cue. After about an hour he would consider playing a shot ![]() Ah those were the days ![]() RE: Snooker - Whynot - 05-05-2014 21:28 What a yellow from ronnie!!!!!!!!!!! final frame decider anyone? RE: Snooker - mikedafc - 05-05-2014 21:45 Great response with century break by Selby 16-14 RE: Snooker - Charlemagne - 05-05-2014 22:22 Congratulations to Mark Selby on winning the trophy (and his wife's a looker as well ![]() RE: Snooker - oldboy1047 - 05-05-2014 22:27 Well done Mark great match RE: Snooker - Tractor boy - 05-05-2014 22:30 Well done Mark Selby. A worthy winner RE: Snooker - Doddle - 06-05-2014 07:41 Blimey, a prediction that came true! Well done to Mark Selby, somewhat overdue but still worthwhile. To turn a 10-5 deficit into an 18-14 victory shows the mettle, the tenacity, the ability to win ugly if you like. That final clearance was a classy way to finish, too ![]() RE: Snooker - mikedafc - 06-05-2014 11:32 Seems that the current points system is going to be replaced by a money list ranking system meaning if you win the World Championship you could be Number 1 in for 6 months without playing. The plus to this system is said to be that top players will be able to pick and choose which tournaments they play allowing the lower ranked players more chances to win. So will it work and is it a good chance? I'm not sure it is RE: Snooker - circles_o_o_o - 06-05-2014 12:40 I heard Barry Hearn saying that there wouldn't be any prize money for losers in the first round of tournaments any more, but there would be an increase in money for the rest of the rounds. Bad news for the 'journeymen' players. RE: Snooker - Doddle - 06-05-2014 14:52 The way they talked about it on BBC (one time I saw, they may have mentioned it several times) was that it would allow players to pick and choose tournaments. So theoretically, if the top 10 skipped it, then that means 10 lower-down names have a chance to get further and make more than if the chance wasn't there. Which kinda works, in theory, but I suspect it won't in practice. The ranking system has been flawed for years, but Hearn keeps trying new ways to fix it that are all even more dubious than where they started from. ISTR Chris Small made the top 16 one time but was then too ill to go to the events (that might be some sort of mangled urban myth, I dunno). |
