Okay, I'm officially over this ceremony, BORING. Even edited ''I like it'' out of my earlier post, I enjoyed a few bits at the start, but just fucking end already. Sheesh.

I googled ''gb flag bearer'', the answer, Tom Daley and Helen Glover. Thanks Google Big Laugh

Every Olympics must have it's own identity and so by definition the tone is set by the opening ceremony. It was brave and bold and typically French to do things their own way.

It got a little lost in translation for me and had the feel of biting off more than it could chew.
But hey that's just me.
I did feel a bit sorry for the organisers with the weather putting a dampener on things.
The most important thing is how the French public perceive it.
I hope the Games can ultimately prove to be a distraction from the travails of daily life and unite people in a celebration of sport.

Best wishes to Paris for the next few weeks Smile.

As with all Opening Ceremonies it was too long and unfortunately I thought the use of the River Seine detracted rather than added to the event. Too spread out and for many who had paid to see it they will have had long periods where nothing was happening in front of them.

Brave move to try to drown Carl Lewis, Rapha Nadal, Serena Williams & Nadia Comaneci in a monsoon on the Seine laugh Rapha certainly didn’t look amused being in the rain that long.

I did like some of the links to French history and the Eiffel Tower light show followed by the Montgolfier brothers balloon for the Olympic flame cauldron were inspired.

Alarm now set for 7am and the early morning Olympics show on Discovery+

Needs More Smurfs!! lol Wonder if theere are Smurf Olympics? I bet their opening ceremony would have been more enterning!!

I think as far as opening ceremonies go & listening on the radio it got bloody tedious and sounds a lot like some bits went wrong especially when it seemed they were going backwards & forwards with the flame lighting surprised it never went out. French Olympic organisation = nul points! I bet Rafa looked pissed off!

If I recall didn't it go out in Montreal in '76 at one point and someone re - lit it with a lighter and they were told it had to be done properly or something?
Why bloody waste four plus hours tv coverage when you can cut it down on bits like shorten speeches, declare Games open, parade the teams take oaths, raise the flags, light the flame, that's it job done in maybe what 2 and a half even just under three? The IOC needs to look at this because I think many athletes have to perform next day I get the feeling many athletes buggered off to stop getting wet.

HOLD IT IN THE FUCKNG STADIUM!
Exactly the French way is just too tedious
Are they re - building the Coliseum in LA? trouble is they probably won't have the jet pack men again they'll probably find a way to use e bikes or scooters just to make them cool again! Tongue

Just had a horrible thought: It's 2028 and if Trump is President - he'll probably hog the whole damn thing for four bloody hours or more!! He'll insist on every athlete competing swears an oath to him, ensures every US athlete who is competing actually voted for him in 2024 - bloody nightmare!! It won't be the IOC Olympics - it'll be the Trump Olympics!!

Any truth to the story about team GB flying out their own team chef after reports of food not being cooked properly in the village?

RE: Paris Olympiad 2024 - Snooks - 27-07-2024 10:31

The GB men have started their hockey campaign with a 4-0 win over Spain.
