Much deserved win for South Africa can see them being a tough nut to crack when we play them after that win. However I did something on FB about I think it was Sri Lanka or Bangladesh having played the fewest Test matches and they wanted more Test Matches

The main issue is the expense to stage Test matches, under the current schedule South Africa have no home Test Matches for 18 months which is crazy when you consider the World Test Championship starts its 2 year cycle immediately after their win giving the holders just 6 months of home Tests.

If Test Match cricket is to survive we need more than just India, Australia & England playing regularly.
There must be more money in the game than ever before, somehow it needs to be shared out to help all the Test playing sides.
T20 cricket was suppose to be the saviour of the game, but it has come at the expense of Test cricket. West Indies for example must have some of the wealthiest cricketers thanks to the IPL & other T20 franchise comps, but like most countries their cricket board can't compete & keep these players under contract, hence the retirement from International cricket of Pooran who is in his prime at 29, & Klaasen has done the same with South Africa.
The ECB have at least brought in restriction for players with first class county contracts & not issuing NOC's No Objection Certs required to play in franchise leagues that overlap with the English county season.
Unsurprisingly the IPL seems to be mostly exempt other than some international players required to return home & fulfil commitments.
There have already been county players with white-ball only contracts, but this years tighter restrictions aimed at keeping the best England qualified players in 4 day Championship cricket has forced many more into making a financial decision regarding their careers.
