What a match though?? Alcaraz looked down and out, but wouldn't go away! Not enough people appreciate nearly enough, what these athletes put themselves through! No team mate to pass the racket too if things get tough! The physical demands at the highest level are off the scale! Kudos to N Kyrgios for his insightful commentary! He can be a decent guy, will an ounce of sense every so often apparently!

Yastremka-mania stopped running wild after a straight sets loss in the semis, though still a mighty achievement. Her conqueress, Zheng Qinwen, meets Aryna Sabalenka in the final, after the latter KO'd Cori Gauff.

And what a match today between Zverev and Medvedev!! I won't say how it finishes - watch it on the Eurosport highlights show if you can. An epic, a pleasure to watch.

The 2025 tournament starts tomorrow night UK time. British players have mixed fortunes in the singles draws.

Most interesting perhaps is Jacob Fearnley facing up to home favourite Nick Kyrgios.

After defeat for Sonay Kartal on day one there is better news early on day two for Britain as Jodie Burrage has beaten French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean 6-2 6-4.

RE: Australian Open - Snooks - 13-01-2025 14:54

Jack Draper recovered twice from being a set down to beat Mariano Navone 4-6 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2 in just over 4 hours.

Meanwhile Jacob Fearnley claimed an excellent 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 7-6 (7-2) win over a physically struggling home favourite Nick Kyrgios.

Despite a whole load of debilitating woes on serve Emma Raducanu battled hard to finally beat the 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2). That was tough viewing.

She's had a long road back to be fair and I hope she takes a lot of positives from it.

I wonder if we are finally seeing the wind down of Kyrigos' career. It's been a tough battle back for him and I think for all his talent he should be challenging for Major titles at this stage of his career. I imagine the defeat is going to hurt for him, with it being his home slam and probably there was a lot of excpectation on him to do well. Australia has had some great male tennis players over the years and probably a lot was heaped on Kyrigos very early on in his career to carry on that tradition and I'm sure that burden hasn't helped. But a great win for Fearnley.
