It has now been deemed 'crass & insensitive' to blow up half of Glasgow just to amuse the crowds at the opening ceremony. So the Red Roads flats demolition will not be happening.

I always thought that this would have been a very strange, and somewhat bizarre, way to open a major international sporting event.

Looks like the Rugby sevens is being held at Ibrox.
I know Murrayfield is in Edinburgh but it does seem a shame not to have any matches at SRU HQ.

I wonder they chose Ibrox and not Hampden Park? And yes it does seem a shame not to have any matches at Murrayfield, unless it is being used for something else!!

hampden park will be the main arena for the athletics,its been closed for 6 months for a revamp and to raise the surface 6 feet(metres?) to install the running track and athletic facilities,murrayfield is not being used cos its in EDINBURGH and the games are being held in GLASGOW,bit obvious really,celtic park is also being used for the opening ceremony

IIRC there have been other occasions when a particular city has hosted an Olympic or Commonwealth Games and certain events have been farmed out to nearby towns or cities. This is obviously not occurring in these games at Glasgow.
