In Memoriam: Richard H Kirk
Just noticed that no one had posted this. I posted a lot on Facebook, on the day of the news.
Probably best known as a member of Cabaret Voltaire, pivotal, pioneering electronic music group, formed in Sheffield in the 1970s.
One of those figures and groups who is/are extremely influential, without ever being mainstream names.

I first saw the band playing live on The Tube, on Channel 4, around the mid-80s. I recall finding the lead singer Stephen Mallinder, very menacing.
However, on reflection, albeit without finding a recording of that performance, Kirk is no less unnerving.

I listened to more of him, from around the turn of the 1990s, when he was half of Sweet Exorcist, named after a Curtis Mayfield album, with Richard Barratt, better known as DJ Parrot, influential on the Sheffield club scene, and part of various other groups, including the Funky Worm, and the All Seeing I, both of whom had singles that prompted Top of the Pops appearances.
Sweet Exorcist's album, Clonks Coming, was the first album released on W.A.R.P. Records, whose early releases I did collect.

One of the postings on YouTube that can be found featuring Kirk, is also from around the turn of the 1990s, an edition of Snub TV, a brilliant series that was in the 'Def II' slot on BBC2. Cabaret Voltaire were interviewed, and they continued as a duo, till 1994.

Richard H Kirk died on 21 September 2021, aged 65.

I should add (24/12/2023) that I am still more extensively shadowbanned than I've ever been, despite paying for a blue tick for several months, see my pinned thread, profile and header pics

RE: In Memoriam: Richard H Kirk
Thanks very much to Charlemagne for embedding those videos for me.
My problem of embedding codes not appearing on YouTube is not unique. However, Google evidently closed a thread in the 'Help Community', without resolution: https://support.google.com/youtube/threa...ring?hl=en

This clip of Richard H Kirk on the BBC Four documentary, 'Synth Britannia', is what I originally intended to include: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7xD0XkMdspw&t=59s

I expect the technicalities are different, but I recall back on the defunct Xpanded forum, posting numerous YouTube links, which appeared as embedded.
Maybe there have also been other differences since that time, I don't know.
This isn't the place for further discussion of that, not that the technicalities would mean much to me, but I just want to be able to do it in future.

RE: In Memoriam: Richard H Kirk
As per the preceding post, I (still) can't embed from YouTube!?
So here's a link for CV live on tv in the early 80s: https://youtu.be/7nbfNO5umkc

That song, Just Fascination, is one of my favourites by them: https://youtu.be/2ij5DGxYi2k (the video for the single version)

and came to mind tonight, after I was posting on Facebook, for Bowie's 75th birthday, including his song Fascination, written with Luther Vandross, for the Young Americans album: https://youtu.be/l9QR5p7uok0

Belatedly seen this tribute with links, on a website I hadn't visited for much longer than I'd thought: https://jointhefuture.net/2021/09/23/ric...1956-2021/
