Watching the Cohen hearing is a salutary reminder of how fractured the political system is in the US. One after another the Republican Congressmen & women have spent their time attacking Cohen's character and painting him as an unreliable witness yet last time he testified to Congress and lied (for which he has been sentenced) they celebrated him because he backed their view that Trump was a wonderful person. Now obviously Cohen is a criminal and is due to go to jail soon but the search for the truth seems to have been lost by the Republicans and they have spent little time challenging what he is saying.

Do I think it would be any different if it were the other way round - no probably not. The Democrats can be just as blinkered when it suits them.

A long time ago I had to brief my boss before he appeared at a British Parliamentary hearing. We took it very seriously and he got some searching questions but it wasn't Labour vs Conservatives. They all wanted answers to their questions to help them understand the facts before they wrote a report. We might have problems in Parliament now but thank god we have our system rather than the US one where even the judiciary are increasingly political.

Interesting that they stopped off at RAF Mildenhall for a splash & dash on the way to Vietnam. Both the VC-25 (Boeing 747 which is normally Air Force One) and the C-32 (Boeing 757 / Air Force 2) can be refuelled in flight.

Ignoring the idiots who currently have access to the planes for a moment, if you ever have the chance to see the whole Circus that goes along with a Presidential Trip give it a look, it's a hugely impressive exercise in overkill
