Gorilla
Anyone else think it's tragic that an innocent gorilla lost it's life for looking after a kid with more care and attention than it's parents did? Don't get mr wrong I understand why the authorities chose that course of action but what on earth were the parents thinking. The zoos are designed to ensure that the animals don't get out more than they are to ensure that people don't get in. I hope the parents get charged for this but I doubt it.

RE: Gorilla
Yep, it's a shame. Both the zoo and parents are to blame imo, the zoo should have had better fencing/barriers and the parents should have been paying closer attention to their child. Sure accidents happen, but in this case, it's negligence.
Of course I'm glad the kid is okay, if the gorilla had hurt him (or worse), that would have been terrible, but if they get away with killing an innocent gorilla, then that is also wrong. Zoos get away with far too much.

RE: Gorilla
My limited understanding of it all is that if they tried to sedate the Gorilla it would take 15mins before it would kick in and could result in the gorilla getting aggressive in that time. However usually animals form an emotional bond to it's keeper. Where on earth was he if that is the case.? By all accounts Gorillas are very docile creatures unless they feel threatened. Please see David Attenborough when he lived amongst them. I also remember monkey world had a guy who had worked with gorillas all his life but couldn't cope looking after chimps because they were so energetic and boisterious. On you tube there is a clip of a Gorilla cuddling a dog. I know people who have seen them in the wild and said how gentle they are. Admittedly they were experts and know how to behave around them. It's a real shame.

RE: Gorilla
All very reminiscent of an incident at Jersey zoo 30 years ago that led to Jambo the gorilla gaining fame after standing guard over a child that fell into the gorilla enclosure. Main difference of course is that the gorilla in Cimcimatti was dragging the child around like a toy and keepers probably felt they had no choice. Would be interesting to know what kind of wall/fencing was in place that so small a child was able to get into the enclosure, as well as what the parents were doing at the time because they certainly weren't looking after their kid.

RE: Gorilla
think they should have shot the kid instead of the gorilla plenty of little shits in this world not to many gorilla's should arm them in america think the gorilla will have a higher iq than most Gun owners in the States Wink

Mind you if the kid had been black the Cops would have shot him dead for trespassing Wink

I mean same day Someone shot an NBA player dead because the guy had got the wrong Appartment Number and entered and the guy in the appt shot him dead.

If that happened now they would shoot all the gorillas first and ask questions later.
