Not exactly a deflection because it was my point from the start.
I have no idea if Bojo has been handing over substantial amounts of money to this woman or not. I neither like him nor dislike him (although I do find his eccentric personality comical at times).
No, this was about deliberate attempts to conveniently muddy the waters at a time when it really isn't needed. If Boris has done this throw him to the wolves, stick his name alongside all the other wankers from the 2009 expenses scandal. Nothing surprising really.
And don't worry, I know the Brexiteers are just as bad, currently throwing bullshit around about the Lisbon Treaty
None of this is helpful and I must say, this includes the Benn act also. I can see us getting caught in EU limbo for years to come. All that did was help castrate any potential negotiation leverage we may have had, especially if we are looking to go for a deal which looks extremely unlikely anytime soon.
So what now? Is it no-deal vs revoke article 50? It's looking that way to me.
If Boris is bluffing and really doesn't have a so called loop-hole then he will have to ask for another extension.
What next? A general election? All the hard-nosed Brexiteers will vote for The Brexit party after feeling Boris has sold them down the river.
Who will the Remainers vote for?

Totally agree, i think this current distraction over Acuri doesn't help the current situation at all for Bojo and he'll probably have questions asked about his relationship with her for a long time yet, whether he is in office or not.

Of course, you're right. That politicians and the media are making so much of this now is all transparently designed to attack Johnson on any and all fronts in the extended Brexit battle. They are making a mountain of a molehill -- not because they should, but because they can. And if they'd been even remotely consistent in applying this standard, then Johnson would have been drummed out of politics a long time ago -- not least for spending £40 million on a bridge that was never built.

It is all just selective outrage because it is now politically convenient for them to be outraged. And it has fuck all to do with the existential crisis that they all SHOULD be focusing on at the minute.

That said, I am old enough and old fashioned enough to remember fondly the days when being caught in a lie -- any lie -- was the cardinal sin of politics. People lost their jobs over dodgy taxi expenses and duck houses and, looking back, I miss the days when they did.

We have a government that is cowering in a secretive bunker telling us that they are genuinely seeking a deal, that they will 'obey the law' (wink, wink), that they mustn't 'negotiate in public', etc.. Which is fine, except that it is all predicated on the idea that we can trust them to tell the truth when they DO speak to us.

So the fact that Johnson lies as easily as he breathes seems relevant to me. I have frankly stopped trusting anyone on either side of the Brexit debate. I am ready to start basing my judgments on whether or not the Prime Minister traded tech jobs for blowjobs. At least blowjobs I understand.

It is only a newspaper report (with all the caveats that brings) but now Bojo is set to refuse to leave downing Street - both - if he loses a confidence vote, and crucially, if found to be in 'contempt of court'!! If this turns out to be a true reflection of his/his cabinets thinking, then someone has to act now to remove him!! He can't be allowed to put her majesty in an impossible constitutional position, by having to 'sack him'

That was a funny headline when i saw it on the sky news paper review last night bascially threatening her maj sack me if you dare
He will be out even if they have to get the SAS to remove him by force

it would be the ultimate embarrassment for the country as a whole, if BoJo was sacked by HM, and he refuses to leave Downing Street, but was led out of no 10 in handcuffs, I don't think no sitting PM has ever been arrested before to my knowledge.
I don't know about Trump threatening to start a second Civil War in the US, but I would say BoJo could be implying to do the same if he was to stand up to the Queen like he is doing so. He has embarrassed her once and I don't think she could afford to be embarrassed a second time in public.

Knowing Bojo, he'll find any way to gain diplomatic immunity but then again, the CPS would probably throw the case out as in their words, "it is not in the interests of the public"!
