So Apple don't think it wrong that they were paying a Corporation tax rate of 1% or less. Mmm. I struggle to think how the Irish Government thought it was a good deal. Have they really got that much benefit from the deal?

its simple they bring in money and investment to ireland why do you think irish GDP went up 25% Wink Ireland post 2008 was in a shit hole in fact we bailed them out to the tune of £9 billion.

Mind you the EU Cracking down on it is a good thing for the UK post brexit if we put ours down to 10-15 % attract all of them here

Love the irony all the left wingers complaining about Apple using Iphones !! Wink

I still find it difficult to accept that Ireland benefited to the tune of 13/14 billion euros from one company by doing this deal. Don't forget Ireland already have a really low Corporation Tax rate so the attraction for Apple would have been there in any case. I suppose they had to outbid the Dutch, Belgians & Luxembourg who were also at it.

^ oh I understand that & how much it benefitted Apple but the Irish must have thought that they derived greater benefit to their economy from doing the deal. It's that part I find harder to understand as I suspect the Irish businesses who paid full Corporation Tax do!

Would it more sensible if Apple were to pay the unpaid taxes into the EU and not to the Irish government, as both were complicite in this tax avoidance.

RE: Europe..IN or OUT??
^ Well as Ireland have been deemed guilty of providing illegal state aid to Apple I suppose the fairest thing to do would be for each country that lost out in collecting taxes from Apple (because they structured their business so that sales were booked through Ireland instead of say the Uk & France etc) to get the unpaid tax.

RE: Europe..IN or OUT??
thats what the new EU regulations they are trying to get thru EU parlimant are basically companies will have to in there accounts have to show how much profit they got from each EU country and the amount of tax they paid that country.

im guessing now we are leaving the EU we wont be doing that Wink Wink
