A lot of the success in the 1997 Labour landslide was down to the personality of Tony Blair, love him or hate him he was the first leader and then Prime Minister to embrace popular culture, I even remember him playing an electric guitar on the Des O'Conner show and then once elected inviting the Gallagher brothers into No 10 for a celebrity party. Millaband has none of this, he's as dull as dish water and and completely lacks conviction, as soon as he opens his mouth you just feel like nodding off.
For all the talk about Cameron as one of the Bullingdon bullies, it shouldn't be forgotten that Ed Miliband had to stab his own brother in the back to get his job. Which is a novel approach to solving unemployment, but not practical for most people.

Cameron, Osbourne & co are just going through the motions because they have no original ideas of their own (apart from IDS, who wants extraditing anyway).

The LDs have never really owned up to their own division, between the purists, who think you must stick to every last word of your manifesto even though then you'll never be able to put it into practice, and the pragmatists, who said "first vaguely Liberal government in decades? alright then". At least they're pro-Europe.

The other single-issue parties are just a joke. Farage is like an English Alex Salmond.

Then we have the self righteous Nigel Farage, pint in one hand and fag in another is nothing more than a self proclaimed hypocrite. He hates everything about Europe yet his party gained a seat in the European Parliament and decides not to turn up but he is still happy to take a kings ransom.

The man is a thief propped up by a bunch of yobs, biggets and racists. I'll also make no bones I welcome some of his policies but vote that man into power and you can kiss goodbye to your human rights and minimum wage. Under a UKIP Government he would also force all disabled and unable people into work.

If I had injured myself back in January with UKIP in power then I could bank on getting zero in the way of any sort of pay. In fact you'd have no rights as a worker. I still cling to hope that Scotland gets a second referendum so that we as a country can rid ourselves of all the English based Partys. Its been predicted that the SNP will have another clean sweep of votes up here so sooner or later whether the unionists like it or not Scotland will be an Independent nation again.

I dont know about it being about tony blair winning in 97 because if John Smith hadnt have died I reckon he would have still won mainly because had been 18 years of Tory Rule i mean even Kinnock could have won in 97

great article http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/pol...57017.html on the 20th anniversary of Smiths death

Just had a WTF moment when read that Ed Milliband if he wins going to have the 6 pledges writtern in stone and put in downing st garden who does he think he is Moses leading the labourites to promised land laughlaughlaugh mind you he does like his bible/torah stories hes already been cain who out of jealosuy stabbed his brother in the back Big LaughBig LaughBig Laugh

RE: General Election Vote
not that my vote matters in UK election due to boundary changes after Scottish Parliament was formed, but a Labour minority government with SNP propping it up is scary. Two Eds are not better than 1, as apparently running a deficit with a steady growing economy is not overspending and the notion that the Tories backed their spending plans until 2007 when no Tories backed Blair giving away a 1 billion pound a year of EU Rebate for nothing in return.

I will be voting Lib Dem as I always do, where I live in Somerset its only them or Tories who can get in, I really think they could take west Somerset for the first time,
I don't think the LD will do as bad as the press are making out they still got a lot of support in my part of the world and ukip are taking a lot of torie votes lol

RE: General Election Vote
yeah thinking they will get about 35-40 seats losing quite a few in scotland still lose about 17 seats if they get 40

that way torys only need about 280 and have a coalition with lib dems and DUP

RE: General Election Vote
Will be oh so glad to see this election done. The amount of bullshit spouted is deyond belief. It's cringing to see Cameron trying to be sincere, and as for saying the conservative party is now the party of the working classes, yeah, and Gary Glitter is innocent. Milliband seems to have lost the plot, and Farage and Clegg would make a great double act, not as good as Morecambe and Wise, but they make me laugh. Wee Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP have them all shitting themselves, and not before time. Think most of us are sick to the teeth of Labour and the Torys tit for tat, its their fault not ours, we will fix it. Come Friday morning, the brown noseing that will go on to get their share of the cake, will be comical. Whatever the outcome, the moneymen will still be in charge, as alwaysSadSad

RE: General Election Vote
The last few days before the election.
What has happened to Alex Salmond?
He's likely to have a major influence in the running of the country, but I haven't seen him once in the election run up.

should people be fined for not voting? that's one thing that often comes to my mind at election time I know you can be fined in Aussie for not voting but I think you should be fined if you deliberately spoil your ballot paper
