photoshop users have a look

first things first, i'm completely new to all this stuff, so i need some help to get me started,

how do i put a frame round a photo?

how do i cut something out of one picture and add it to another?

how does the layers thing work?what is its purpose?

probably simple stuff, i just cant seem to find the stuff i'm looking for on it.

its cs4 if that makes a difference.

thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated.

just a thought, it would be nice if someone could do a simple "how to" guide and get it saved at the top of this section.

i'll have a look at the for dummies stuff first, see if i can pick it up,

i've had a wee play around with it already, i just couldn't get the bloody thing to do what i wanted lol, it shouldn't take me too long to pick up i hope.

i'm in the middle of building 3 websites, all needing logos n stuff done. i'm kind of up to my eyes in it lol.

right i've had a look through some of the stuff posted, i've picked up a few tips, i'm still struggling with the basics, i kind of need to learn it quickly, is there any one on here that uses it alot that i can ask some questions?

Hmmm, wanting to learn Photoshop quickly. I'd suggest you give up now. I'm always refining or altering how I do stuff and have tons of books and websites to refer to

TBH framing doesn't require much effort as a simple one is just a canvas size adjustment and then add the frame you want.

Think of layers like the old acetate on top of the original picture. It allows you to adjust things without destroying the original image. They are a must for pro editing as they are hugely flexible allowing you to alter things quickly and also fine tune those adjustments at any stage

Composite images. Well you said you needed to learn quick. Composite images are easy, good composite not so depending on how much you want people to think it is just one image. I can't really give you a one stop solution to isolating something out of an image as depending on what you are trying to do different techniques work better than others.

Can I put it politely though. Don't use Photoshop CS4. If you're struggling with knowing how to approach basic editing you'll only get frustrated. Come back to it once you are more familiar with editing. A better solution would be it's little sister Photoshop Elements or something similar
