SA's 4th series on Music Icons seems to have spread to cover the sorts of acts they wouldn't want to do a whole show on, so they band 3 together with a particular theme. So they did one on early Brit metal, which linked Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but also Nazareth. And then another last week on later metal covered Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but also Saxon.

SA ran a great doc on R Stevie Moore, a lo-fi legend who's made 400 albums, and recently went on his first tour in his 60s. In some ways, he seemed an American counter to Frank Sidebottom or John Shuttleworth, only not doing it for laughs. Here's the trailer:

Another chance to see a great documentary on film soundtracks - a nice mix of potted history of film and scores, mixed with segments on directors and composers talking about their own process for and experiences of composing for films:

Only been less than a week but I'm enjoying Now 70s. I daresay much of the footage weren't called videos in the days before MTV, but an awful lot look genuinely from their time.

I'd been looking forward to Packham's documentary since he mentioned it on 6 Music last year but it didn't hold my attention as I thought it would.
What did he play in The Titanic Survivors?

Guitar, wasn't it? I wasn't entirely sure it mattered.

It did feel a lot like "oh I've accepted a gong, can I do a BBC4 doc to go with it?"

You may also want to try Rock N Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar, on Showcase (Sky 192), 8.30pm, Wed & Fri. The Wed one had Todd Rundgren and Paul Rodgers, but I don't think they're all necessarily that standard (see Sammy's YT channel for more details if you're interested). Also its on a boat not a road.
