Not the same as Av of course but a worrying parallel development.

According to Sky news, the launch date has been delayed again. The Government say a launch date will be announced soon.

Ironically, under that legislation, linking like that would potentially be a major issue for this site, requiring a fee to the linked site Rolleyes

That isn't true.

The legislation only concerns links which are accompanied by a significant excerpt of the story being linked to. A mere link by itself cannot be held to breach anybody's copyright.

Despite the term 'link tax' being commonly used, the idea is to give news publishers control over the use of snippets of content, not to give them control over the act of linking.

^ Its a Google tax by the back door that is intended to restore the status quo of the news agenda to being set by traditional media. It is a blatant grab for the power of mass communication that politicians are scared of seeing slip from their grubby fingers.

The idea that the babeshows "are not that deep" is driven by those that don't wish to acknowledge how much effective customer service and a consideration of psychology impacts users' future interactions.

Google can carry on much the same as before. News snippets can continue to appear in Google newsfeeds but will need to be kept short.

^ Where have you read that? Where's this definition of what's short?

So you’re in favour of Google, Facebook, Apple et al taking content from the copyright owner without payment and also accepting no responsibility for the accuracy of the content as they are not “publishers”. Interesting.

The copyright owners bear all the costs of production but have their reward in terms of sales income taken from them by the big internet companies who bombard you with advertising so they make billions.

In a feeble attempt to curry favour with UK regulators Google have started funding grants to local news companies so they can afford to have a reporter!
