The Marraiage (Same Sex Couples) Bill - Do You Support It - Yes/No

On tuesday MP's are to vote on legalising same sex weddings,It seems however that a number of Tories are likely to oppose the bill.
Growing up in a strict religious household,homosexuality was frowned upon,to put it mildly,but I'm glad to say as I grew up,so did my mentality and I broke the bigoted religious indoctrination forced upon me.
I've set up a poll to gather the views of other members.
Please note: This is a serious poll for those who have genuine views on the issue.

I voted against it only for the following reasons. Civil partnerships as recognised in a registry office is fine i just think if the Churches felt they were obliged to perform these ceremonies they would be perfectly entitled to say samesex marriages are not consistent with our beliefs. This I would have some sympathy for.

Fundamentally the act of getting married as is getting your child christened or having a church funeral presupposes that you have and conform to the beliefs of that religion they are for all intents and purposes religious ceremonies so it could be viewed as having a double standard.

On the other side of the coin same sex relationships should be within law entitled to everything other partnerships are in respect pensions, tax allowances, probate law childcare and fostering so its a difficult one.

MPs vote overwhelmingly in favour of allowing gay marriages by a majority of 225.
Vote Count: 400 in favour 175 against.
Over 100+ Tories voted against the Bill & 41 Abstained.
Tut Tut Tut...2013 and still people basing their decisions on archaic religious beliefs.
Seems like their will be many stumbling blocks before this bill becomes law,if indeed it ever does.

This is one of those questions everbody will have an answer to and have an opinion on, but due to the nature of the question, would not be willing to make those answers/opinions easily known.

More so in government. As much as the vote they had shows an overwhelming majority for it, i suspect the reasoning behind their votes were not so sincere...

I voted "No" because that's how i feel about it. I appreciate people may not agree with my vote and/or opinion, so be it.

Marriage is for two people to commit themselves to each other - emotionally and physically. Humans were made/evolved/whatever, before any religion got involved, to mate, to continue the being of our species. A man is "built" the way he is and the woman likewise, purely for this reason.

These two reasons, together, is what a marriage entails. I don't believe you can have, in a marriage, one without the other.

This is my simple reasoning - call me old fashioned (or whatever else!) but that's how i feel about this subject.

Maybe so...but it should be a right afforded to both gay & straight couples alike,should it not?

That's the problem, should you be able to cherry pick what you want out of religion ?

Same sex marriage ? I was in a no sex marriage..

I disagree, the problem is the other way round.. it's religion that is meddling.

Marriage is not something religion has a baring on, or should have. It's unfortunate that many countries, including this one, deem marriage only to be "legal" and therefore only legitimate if the marriage ceremony is carried out under the eyes of "God", ie. in a church*.

Can people not therefore get married (legally) if they are in no way religious and don't want to marry in a church etc?

Well TheTruth, looks like you're opening a right can of worms with this thread (hence my opening gambit in my first post)!

I just hope the posters are going to be mature in their replies and keep it all civil.

I agree schmoo, I married in a register office which from what I can gather is much the same ceremony as a civil partnership. I didn't feel any less married.
