Sylvia Kristel RIP

Sylvia Kristel, who shot to fame in the 1974 erotic film "Emmanuelle", has died at the age of 60. Kristel (who was actually Dutch and not French as many people believe) had been suffering from cancer and had also had a stroke.

Although it looks tame now, "Emmanuelle" was one of the first films of its nature to get a mainstream release. It was regarded as shocking at the time and the version shown in the UK had many cuts, but that didn't stop most of the country's teenage boys trying to get in to see it!

Sylvia was the hottest porn actress of her time, many a young guy's fantasy. RIP babe.

I remember seeing her for the first time in the Miss Europe competition. (just checked and it was in 1973). She won it and the next year went on to make the Emmanuel films.

From the days of natural beauty. No fake hair, no fake tan, no fake nails, no fake eyelashes, minimum make up and not shaved bald like a little girl.

One of the most disappointing moments of my teenage life was watching Private Lessons, mainly due to the cover of that particular video release - there was no hint anywhere that the tale of Sylvia Kristel falling in love with a teenage boy was in the style of an especially weak comedy! Looking on the bright side, I had to admit that Kristel was as beautiful as I'd expected and learning of the existence of the mile-high club through a description of the goings-on in Emmanuelle was a gift to the imagination. All sorts of thanks, Sylvia, and rest in peace.
