Tax Returns
Not sure if this is the right section. I've just filed my tax return online, I should be getting a refund of around 2k. As you can imagine i'm quite eager to get it ASAP!

It's the first time i've done it online and was wondering how long it takes to receive the refund? Any one else with more experience in the matter?

Cheers.

RE: Tax Returns
With that level of refund i would not be surprised if you received an enquiry. But generally they are quite good paid within 7-10 days of filing.

Thanks man. Yea it was quite a lot, but my mate who is an accountant helped me do it, so he knows the ins and outs, so hopefully it's all kosher.

RE: Tax Returns
Assuming that you file your return under Self Assessment, and your affairs are straightforward, you should get your refund fairly pronto (10 working days is about the norm).

Anything under £5k usually goes through on the nod, above that there are different levels of security checks where either a supervisor, inspector or senior inspector has to approve the repayment as the amount gets higher.

There is a difference between a security check and an "enquiry", which is a specific HMRC term for going through your tax affairs with a fine toothcomb, and something to avoid at all costs!!!!
