All over Europe full-on sex on TV is available if you want it. Only in sad, repressed Britain and Ireland are you subjected to this dictatorship which knows what's best for us.

Follow Ofcoms logic and anyone who has spent time abroad watching foreign TV is damaged and should be quarantined to protect the public.

RE: Petition
there is no free porn or erotica on free to air european tv (exception of sexysat which has lousy pic quality)anywhere anymore its been removed over the last 3 years when sky moved in and set up they bought up any competition and replaced them with qvc channels.....the model you will have in 5 years across europe will be the american model all about marketing to housewives anything worth watching will be pay per view and they did not need ofcom to achieve that..... its just capitalism

Id love to say Yes, but talking to Ofcom would be a waste of valuable oxygen. Might as well ask Ian Paisley to raise his kids Catholic. Theres none as deaf as them that wont listen. One of the Content Committee is on record as saying he sees it as their duty to keep R18 out. He didnt say prevent harm, he said a very specific category. Its as if a judge said his job was "to keep gypsies off private land" - preconcieved notion = instant disqualification from the job.

Unless you work for Ofcom.

No, its the people who employ Ofcom who need to be motivated. The Government. Jeremy Hunt. The papers. Parliament.

As for Europe, in Thatchers* day anyone could stick up a dish and receive foreign TV. It gave independence from national regulators. It was called Freedom of Speech. These days you can have a dish, but foreign programs are censored at source, anything too provocative either doesnt get off terrestial TV and onto satellite or is encrypted. Even Rai 1/2/3 is encrypted these days. (* not a fan, just a historical point).

Eccles, just out of interest, who is the guy who is stated as saying he will keep R18 off the screens?

Just what do they think they are achieving?
There are always glimpses of R18 activity, as specified by the BBFC, on the encrypted channels. Erect penises and cunnilingus are two "activities" shown and these are deemed to be R18.

To us, as consumers, the channels are quite poor but to a non porn enthusiast they would seem very explicit, including the colourful language.

The only people Ofcon are protecting by their policy is themselves.

I have maintained for some time that it is their own fear of enjoying these programmes which leads them(Ofcon) to want them banned and that they are then projecting these fears onto the general populace, most of whom don't give a monkey's..... that they are there and have already stated that adults should be free to watch what they want as long as it's legal.

It's no coincidence that Sky is run by one of the biggest crooks going....
