RE: The album thread. Discussion and recommendations.
I've just spent the past couple of hours listening to a pair of new albums...

Weezer: Hurley - A bit of a return to Weezer's geek rock roots, although they never really deviated that far from them to begin with. If you already like Weezer (luckily for me, I do), you'll love it to bits, but there's nothing there to bring in new fans.

Antony & The Johnsons: Swanlight - It's Antony & The Johnsons, so you know exactly what you're going to get. Sumptuous strings, delicate piano, haunting - almost ethereal - vocals and gorgeous lyrics about the sad and upsetting side of being in love. As always, it's a triumphant album, despite bringing nothing new to the table. A one trick pony, with a trick that isn't even close to getting old yet. Go out and get a copy of this as soon as you can.

Badly Drawn Boy - It’s What I’m Thinking - A fellow Springsteen obsessive. Still not the album you know he has in him but it has some nice touches with ‘Too many miracles’ being the standout track. If you like him you’ll like this despite it being a little one paced.

Fran Healy - Wreck order - it’s ok but it’s a Travis album in all but name. If you’re in a band what’s the point in making an album that sounds exactly as it would if it belonged to the band? I’m baffled but..

Blondie - At the bbc - CD/DVD package of the band’s Glasgow Apollo show from December 31st 1979. If you happen to be a wannabe female popstar: buy this, watch, listen and then do us all a favour and give up because you will never be this good. Every x factor contestant should be physically forced to watch this.

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the key of life, one of the beautiful albums ever written, every track from this album is a mini masterpiece. A musical genius at his most creative. Easily one of the top five albums of all time.

Michael Jackson - Off the wall, although Thriller may be his most well known and successful album, Off the wall is by far the best record he ever made.

Sting - Dream of the blue turtles, his first solo album and the best to date, taken individually there might not seem to be any stand out tracks, but together they make up a superb album. Written back in the eighties this record was a comment of the time.

Looking forward to hearing the new Elbow album Tim-the-bear! If it's anywhere near as good and successful as The Seldom Seen Kid, the multi-award winning predecessor, then it'll be great. And what a fantastic live act they are too; Guy Garvey is the best singer I have ever heard live!

Not into the band itself, although I was quite impressed with them at V Festival last year, but you're right Gaz, she is dirty! Check out her pics on the Music Babes threadTongue

My own recommendation would be the recently-released long-awaited third album from Cornwall's Thirteen Senses, entitled Crystal Sounds. Their first two albums completely blew me away and I simply cannot believe that they are so relatively unknown to so many. I would have no hesitation in saying they are my favourite British band.

Not to everyone's taste I'm sure (but hey, isn't that the case with all music?), but if you like Keane or Mercury Rev then a) you have great taste in music, and b) you will absolutely love Thirteen Senses. Not as instantly catchy as their first two albums The Invitation and Contact, but it's a sure-fire grower, and like I say, if you like the aforementioned then please give Thirteen Senses a try - I promise you won't be disappointedSmile!
