They Shall Not Grow Old

Made by Peter Jackson in 2018 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.

Jackson uses The Imperial War Museum film archives with voiceovers provided by over a hundred men who fought on the Western Front in the Great War to tell the stories of the soldiers from their enlisting to the end of the war and the aftermath. It's is a great technical achievement because the film stock was in poor condition, in black and white, and obviously silent. It also was filmed on hand cranked cameras giving variable frame rates of about 13fps. This had to be converted to 24fps with frame interpolation technology to fill in the gaps. The film is colourised and a soundtrack added. Professional lip readers and voice actors let us hear the men speaking.

One critic said that it's like time travelling back a hundred years and it is riveting to watch. You see the horror of the war with the mangled bodies and the gangrenous limbs and hear one of the men say that if you stumbled off the duckwalks into the mud then they often had to leave you there to drown. Some of the other images stick in the mind as well like the row of tommies sat on a long pole, shitting in a ditch and a howitzer letting off a round which was so loud it shook the tiles off the roof of the neighbouring barn.

Some of the old soldiers said that after the war they got little recognition and that most people just wanted to forget the whole thing. Thanks to this film at least some of their memories should live on.

Bloodshot - 7/10. Not bad, but could have been a lot better. Some dodgy accents and a bit predictable at times. Watch if nowt else is on.

The Truman Show 1998

I couldn't really engage with this film because I found the basic premise to be so unbelievable. I find Jim Carrey quite irritating as well whatever he's in. It's well made and the acting is ok but if you can't immerse yourself then it's all a bit pointless.
I've seen two other Peter Weir films. Witness was good and Master and Commander was excellent but this for me is a dud.
Because it's so highly regarded I have to file it away in the most overrated films category along with The Shawshank Redemption and LA Confidential.

Ranked 1144 on the TSPDT list.

^ It does seem particularly quaint now - the idea you would have to so elaborately set up and script a "reality show" when the schedules today show that billions of viewers will watch any old group of non-entities picked off the street doing fuck all.

Ocean's 11 - seen it a few times before, quite like it. Given that it is an ensemble cast of many stars & the genre it's the kind of film that could of easily been a lot worse

If i could find a girl that had the looks of Gal Gadot, breasts of Sophie Mudd with Demi Rose's ass, the personality of Jessica Ennis, the grace of Kendall Jenner on the red carpet and then behind closed doors the raw sexual energy of Nicole Snow i'd know i was dead and gone to heaven, so i'll just take Demi Rose's ass and Nicole's sexual energy

Yesterday - 7.5/10.

A struggling musician gets into an accident, when he wakes up he is the only one who remembers The Beatles. A bit of fun and worth a look.

47 Metres Down Uncaged. 5/10

Four teenage divers discover that the sunken ruins of a Mayan city are also a hunting ground for deadly great white sharks. With their air supply steadily dwindling, the frightened girls must navigate the underwater labyrinth of claustrophobic caves and eerie tunnels in search of a way out of their watery hell.

I watched it on Netflix thought it was a decent film i watched the first film 47 Metres Down on Netflix to i thought that was decent to Sylvester Stallone's daughter Sistine is in it in her film debut.

La Vie revee des anges (The Dreamlife of Angels)
1998 directed by Erick Zonca

Two French lasses drifting around aimlessly doing crap short term jobs, smoking heroically. One of them cops off with some rich bloke who messes her about and then dumps her so she kills herself.

Won the Cesar award for the best French film of 1998.
