Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)

Comedy starring Steve Martin & Michael Caine.
Two con men try to settle their rivalry by betting on who can swindle a young American heiress out $50,000 first.
I watched this for the first time the other night & it had me in hysterics, especially the wheelchair scene with Caine's character seeing if Martin's character would snap Big Grin

4.25/5

Commando (1985)

Action starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
A retired Special Forces Colonel tries to save his daughter, who has been abducted by his former subordinate.
Classic over the top 80s action with Arnie in his prime. Cheesy at times, but it's fun with Schwarzenegger looking super human taking out a swarm of enemies all by himself & delivering great one liners that only he can "let off some steam, Bennett" Big Grin

4/5

What We Left Behind

The long awaited documentary about ST DS9, the cast, writers, why certain things happened etc. Supposed to be released ages ago but they wanted to HD some scenes from the show.

Bizarre how people turn out after 20 years. Andrew Robinson/Garak doesn't look any different (despite having grey hair and no Cardassian make up, lol.)
Intense scene of Terry Farrell stuggling to not go nuclear about why she left the show.

The writers sat around dreaming up a story for an imaginary first episode of an 8th season was a bit daft though, and went on too long.
But, for someone who rarely tolerates documentaries, it was pretty engrossing stuff. Helpful that I only finished watching DS9 again last Friday.

8/10.

The Wolverine - Extended Cut

A massive improvement over the first movie especially with the extended cut version of movie what I really enjoyed was Japanese setting of the movie and I loved the flash back sequence of the film and the Jean Grey cameo thought out the movie. The action was really great too, my only negatives with the movie were how they did Silver Samurai the comic book version of him way better, also when uses the device to stop Logan’s powers but needed him at the end they could absorbed his powers at the beginning. Also how he lost his admantium was a bit odd and then by the days of future past future timeline and then Logan his got it back again. I did love the post credit scene with the two cameos setting up Days of Future Past. Overall really enjoyed this cut of the movie.

I'm a bit of a sucker for such movies that are A.I. related - from Terminator to the TV series Westworld, so with this movie before going in, I had no idea of what to expect as I'd not seen many reviews or trailers for it. The premise of the movie is (without giving away any spoilers) that after an extinction level event that wipes out all of humanity a lone android is tasked to bring up a female human being in an underground bunker and what is led to be believed is that the ground above is toxic to all life. The film has an almost claustrophobic feel to it similar to the first Alien movie with the confinements of it's surroundings, it also borrows a little from movies such as Ex_Machina but this does have it's own identity attached to it with regards to the story telling. Considering the movie only has two people in it throughout, I was gripped from start to finish. The acting is great but relative newcomer Clara Rugaard gives an outstanding performance as 'daughter' bringing to life the relationship between android and human.

There are many good twists and turns in this movie and I felt some of the questions were left unresolved at the end but it's still worth a look imo. 7.5/10

Top Secret

From the makers of Airplane and starring Val Kilmer, forgot how funny the movie is and I had no Kilmer really sang all the songs in the movie and even released a album under his characters name Nick Rivers

Memory : The Origins of Alien(2019)

The latest documentary charting the making of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic but hardly the most definitive.
"Memory" which was writer Dan O'Bannon's title of the work in progress script falls short against some of the previous making of/history efforts, Scott himself and Sigourney Weaver are absent from proceedings leaving the late O'Bannon to take a sizable role in the telling of the story.Contribtions from Veronica Cartwright and Tom Skerritt are good but what the add has all been heard before.Still worth a look if you're a fan of the original(and best)film of the franchise.

7/10
