Life (2017);

I have a horrible tendancy of buying dvd's when they are first released but only end up watching them 5/6 months later when they appear on Sky Movies.

Anyway this is sci-fi/horror film set in space stars Jake Gyllenhaal & Ryan Reynolds as a group of scientists who discover life-form on soil/dust collected from planet Mars.
These dopey as arsehole scientists clearly haven't read the sci-fi film manual that says 'there is no such thing as a good alien so mind your own f~*king business'.
What starts off as a small micro-organism once watered & fed ends up growing bigger & bigger but the aliens favourite food-type just happens to be a nice juicy scientist & just to mention the alien just happens to be super-intelligent enough to be a member of Mensa.

The cover of the dvd describes this film as mix of Alien & Gravity which is well described,Ryan Reynolds actually gets to immitate the role of John Hurt by playing an incubator for the alien in his stomach. And whilst the alien in this film is no way as intimidating as the ones in Alien(s) he certainly is a strange looking fucker thats a cross between an octopus & the talking plant in The Little Shop of Horrors (without the voice).Great special effects make this a worthwhile watch.7/10.

White Heat (1949)

Crime drama starring James Cagney & Virginia Mayo.
A psychopathic criminal with a mother complex makes a daring break from prison and leads his old gang in a chemical plant payroll heist. Shortly after the plan takes place, events take a crazy plan.
Features the famous line "Look ma, top of the world!"

4.5/5

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)

Drama starring Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman and Burl Ives.
Brick, an alcoholic ex-football player, drinks his days away and resists the affections of his wife, Maggie. His reunion with his father, Big Daddy, who is dying of cancer, jogs a host of memories and revelations for both father and son.
Brilliant performances by all involved here featuring an excellent script full of conflict, which makes for a great watch.

5/5

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

For me the biggest surprise film of 2017 because it was wrongly assumed it's a remake of the classic film Jumanji starring Robin Williams & therefore was a lot of negativity surrounding it.

When actually it's a sequel to Jumanji set 20yrs after the events of the first Jumanji and it's a a very good entertaining fantasy film which is also very very funny from start to finish.

The special effects are very good as are also the action sequences. It does explain at the start how it's now a Jumanji video game & not a board game.

The cast are all excellent, especially Karen Gillan who not only shows that she is a badass like she is in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Films, she reveals she is also very very funny & isn't afraid to send herself up

A nice nod to the first Jumanji film too

9/10

Battle of the sexes (2017)

Starring Steve Carell & Emma Stone

Based on the true story of the tennis match between Billy Jean King & Bobby Riggs in 1973 which was watched by over 90 million people.
Quite a good film and very funny in places.

8/10

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I saw this last week but haven’t had time to write a review, first of all a massive Star Wars Fan I have so many versions of the films on dvd and blu ray simply because I love the franchise every since I was child, all tho I enjoyed Last Jedi I was a little disappointed.
First of all the positives for better or for worse it’s not a copy of any of the other films there some bits that are similar but not a blatant copy, the thumping sound track through out the whole movie even right down to the light sabres being turned on were great. The special effects througt out the movie where great. The space fights with the different ships again fantastic along with the light sabre fights and the twists here and there. The cast were great too and it was good to finally see Luke Skywalker back and those fucking puffin creatures annoying lol.
Now the issues Luke Skywalker doesn’t act like Luke at all even Actor Mark Hamill had issues with this especially with a particular scene/twist.
They had so set up from The Force Awakens that I was expecting things to be explained and development of characters but you do get that so there’s no pay off. Characters are under developed, made to look like a idiot or there story arc is pointless. The side story with Finn and Rose becomes pointless you’ll see what I mean if you've watched it, even Poe i was expecting more as i really liked his character and was under used in The Force Awakens, things are not explained with Rey again won’t spoil what. Am not sure if this is a Disney thing but the use of comedy didn’t fit along with the moral preachering, I wanted to see more back story and development with the characters and the new ones in this movie. There’s a lot more issues I felt I had but they would be spoilers. Other characters which i won’t spoil who are barely in it and then there gone again totally wasted again you’ll know. I thought the villains where ok and again which would be a spoiler I wish had of been more badass.
In general I came out enjoying the film and being entertained and still felt like a Star Wars movie.

9.1/10.

Passengers 5/10 - one of those films i missed at the cinema but purchased because i thought it would look good in 4k, visually beautiful but suffers from a lack of pace and a very predictable plot.
