XXX;Return of Xander Cage (2016).

Third film of the XXX franchise & a balls-to-the-wall action film see's Vin Diesel reprise his role as Xander Cage (whom was presumed dead & was absent in the second film).
The opening scene see's NSA Agent Gibbons (Samuel L Jackson) interview Brazilian Football superstar Neymar about becoming a XXX agent before getting blown up by a falling satellite.On hearing about Gibbon's death Xander comes out of exile trying to find an all new powerful super-weapon Pandora's Box with the help of former team-mates & misfits including Tennyson played by Rory McCann (GOT's The Hound).
As storylines go (what storyline) this is never going to win Oscars but as far as action & stunts go it's top drawer & at times bat-shit crazy including a scene where Xander & Xiang (Donnie Yen) are in a motorbike chase across the ocean on bikes with water skis on.
The film is well shot between Dominican Republic & The Philippines with a stellar cast ie Samuel L Jackson,Toni Collette,UFC star Michael Bisping,the lovely Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaires),a cameo by Ice-Cube (who played Darius Stone in the second film), but it's martial arts star Donnie Yen (who played Xiang) who steals the show by doing his Bruce Lee & Jackie Chan impression by flying-kicking his way through swaithes of bad guys who steals the show in this film.

This was a film that was panned by many critics but I thought this was a pretty okay film if you take it for what it is.5.5/10.

The Terminator (1984)

There's been a lot of talk recently on the forums about James Cameron and his comments about Wonder Woman. I thought I'd revisit one of his early works and enjoy an original movie, without having to worry about the seemingly endless stream of reboots that appear to be clogging up Hollywood at the moment. A killer cyborg is sent back in time from a nuclear war ravaged future Los Angeles to terminate the mother of the leader of the human resistance. The resistance is able to send a soldier to intercept and protect her. It's a simple story, a basic premise that works, long before the franchise became too overdone and complicated with endless unnecessary sequels. This is when the franchise was extremely enjoyable. Brilliant but brutal sci-fi that keeps you entertained from start to finish. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn are all excellent as the leads. A modern classic. 5/5

Conrack(1974)

John Voight puts in a fantastic performance as a teacher who introduces full education to a class of illiterate African American students against the wishes of a prejudiced authoritarian board in the deep south.Also starring Paul Winfield and Madge Sinclair.

Human Traffic(1999) Friends enjoy a night's relentless clubbing in Cardiff. The filming of this is generally relentless too filmed at a breakneck speed suiting the subject matter, interspersed with the odd quieter scene. The directing is inventive, incorporating comic and dramatic moments and there's not really a dull moment. Fine performances from John Simm(who also narrates), Lorraine Pilkington(likeable and very sexy), Danny Dyer(surely one of his best performances), Shaun Parkes and Nicola Reynolds as the group of friends. Time is found to explore the character's back stories, often through Simm's narration and the dance soundtrack is of course excellent. Also starring Andrew Lincoln, the voice of Jo Brand and Howard Marks as himself. 7.5/10

Get Out (2017);

A 4-parts thriller to 1-part horror film about a young African-American guy Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) who gets to that tricky part in any relationship with his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) when he has to meet his girlfriends parents.Maybe he hadn't heard the wise-old words about seeing what his girlfriend will be like in 20-30 years time by looking at her mum.
Chris expresses his trepedations to his girlfriend Rose by asking her if her parents are happy with their daughter being in an inter-racial relationship.But when the big meet-up happens not only are Rose's parents happy to see Chris they overdo it so much it seems a bit insincere,Rose's mum who's a Hypno-Therapist even offers her services to help him quit smoking.
It's only during a garden-party at the house when even the guests act like complete oddballs Chris believes other things may be at play;is it witchcraft,brain-washing,a cult,some suicide pact or something else (you'll just have to watch & find out).

I found this to be a pretty good film tbh with a clever little twist near the end & whilst there's very little gore all-bar near the end it's definitely a film that is more cerebral than anything.7/10.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Stars Robert Downey Jnr as Harry Lockhart a thief turned actor and Val Kilmer playing a gay detective called Gay Perry you couldn’t make it up. Also starring Michelle Monaghan and Corbin Bernsen.
If you’vd never seen this film before I highly recommend you watch it you’ll be laughing your head off, the film is written and directed by Shane Black.

The Hatred (2017)

After a promising start this film descends into a very confusing and not very original horror film. Killing off the film's one menacing character in the first 10 minutes wasn't a good idea.

Memphis Belle(1990) An ensemble cast(including Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz,Billy Zane,Sean Astin,Tate Donovan,Harry Connick Jr,Reed Edward Diamond) in the tale of the buildup and the day of the 25th and final flight of the Memphis Belle, a US bomber plane involved in the WW2 battle over Western Europe. Generally storywise and script nothing stunning, but there are excellent airplane fight scenes, good acting and investing in the characters enough to care about the ending. Also starring David Strathairn, John Lithgow and Jane Horrocks. 6.5/10

Compulsion(1959)

A complex crime drama directed by Richard Fleischer,starring Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman both in frightening form as two fantastically intelligent students that plan and execute a perfect murder in a philosophical excerise.Only to make one mistake that ultimately makes them prime suspects.Also starring Orsen Welles,terrific as the defence lawyer trying to save them from.the death penalty.
