Mike and Dave need wedding dates 5/10 - despite the twist of the girls being the hell raisers instead of the guys this is just another predictable gross out Zac Efron comedy.

Stoker - 7/10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNpDG4WR_74

Quote:India Stoker's world comes crashing down when her father dies in a car accident. Adding to the girl's emotional turmoil is the sudden arrival of Charlie, an uncle whom she never knew existed. Charlie moves in with India and her unstable mother, and soon India begins to suspect that this charming and mysterious man has ulterior motives. However, instead of feeling alarmed, India becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

It's worth a look, it's one of those films that doesn't blow you away, but you don't regret watching it.
Fun fact, it was written by Wentworth Miller.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar, escape from the Devil's Triangle. Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.

Pretty much more of the same....but a decent watch none the less.

Detroit(2017)

Another sublime collaboration between writer Mark Boal and director Kathryn Bigelow.Grabbing the viewer's attention immediately with an incredibly realistic recreation of the race riots that took place in Detroit in the July of 1967.That's just the backdrop, even more drama is found between the characters in the Algiers Motel.The performances from John Boyega,Will Poulter,Algee Smith,Anthony Mackie and Kaitlyn Fever are so intense and naturalistic it plays out like a fly on the wall documentary. Harrowing,heartbreaking but with moments of tenderness.It is a lesson in life without bring patronising.

Bye-Bye Man (2016);

Horror film about 3 college students (a loved up couple & a best friend who fancies his mates girlfriend) who move into a new house & one of the first things they do as a house-warming is to hold a seance (as you do) in which they mistakenly contact a presence known as the Bye Bye Man.
As soon as someone utters the words Bye Bye Man (try it for yourself) he will haunt you & make you see things that aren't really there thus sending someone crazy.The only way you can avoid Bye-Bye Man possessing you is to repeat the words repeatedly "Don't think it,don't say it !!" (which will drive anyone crazy so it's a lose-lose scenario).

As horror films go this isn't a bad one but my main problem with the Bye-Bye Man character himself is that he didn't look remotely scary he kind of resembled Freddie Krueger if he was locked up as a Prisoner-of-War (POW) for several years & deprived of sun-light (lacking Vitamin E).
Bye-Bye Man himself lacked the charisma to rival or even be remembered as an iconic Bogeyman like Freddie Krueger,Jason Vorhees,Mike Myers etc.
Not a bad film 5/10.

Emma(1996) Gwyneth Paltrow in the title role of a film based on a Jane Austen novel, starring as a matchmaker who struggles with love for herself. A witty likeable drama/ comedy of manners with Paltrow fine in the title role, despite her occasional nasal delivery. She also has the problem that she is generally out performed by the rest of the cast, especially Sophie Thompson and Juliet Stevenson(both scene stealing) , Toni Collette, Alan Cumming, Greta Scacchi and Jeremy Northam. However, the various varied scenes with Paltrow and Northam are rather good. Nice, classical, violin based soundtrack too. Also starring James Cosmo,Denys Hawthorne,Polly Walker and Ewan Mcgregor. 6.5/10

This Is England(2006) Its 1983 a schoolboy (an impressive debut from Thomas Turgoose) joins a skinhead gang. What starts off as youthful fun filmed and scripted in a realistic way gradually develops a darker tone, helped by an often scary performance from Stephen Graham as a racist skinhead just out of jail, its not a one note performance however he has a tender side, which overall makes it more scary. A fine, mainly reggae soundtrack. Also starring Jo Hartley,Andrew Shim,Vicky McClure, Joseph Gilgun,Rosamund Hanson,Andrew Ellis, Frank Harper and Jack O'Connell. 7/10

Kingsman :The Secret Service(2014) A kid from an estate is trained to join a secret spy group known as The Kingsman. Some good things going for it, a witty, quite intelligent script, fine performances, especially from Taron Egerton,Colin Firth and Mark Strong and some unpredictable twists. It does, however overdo the action sequences which though well done, become predictable and over the top. Samuel L Jackson's performance is wearying too. Also starring Michael Caine,Samantha Womack,Mark Hamill,Sofia Boutella,Geoff Bell,Edward Holcroft,Sophie Cookson and Hanna Alstrom. 6.5/10
