Black Rain

Starring Michael Douglas & Andy Garcia in the action where they to escort this Japanese Assassin back to Japan and of course it's not as easy as it seems. Directed by Ridley Scott and for up there with one his best films and highly underrated, it also scored by Hand Zimmer.

8.9/10.

Blitz (2011);

Thriller starring Jason Statham as Detective Brant a no-nonsense copper that prefers to serve his own kind of justice to criminals like breaking bones & asking questions later, who believes the phrase 'bobbies on the beat' means giving the criminals a good hiding.
Detective Brant (Statham) under unfortunate circumstances is forced to team up with Sgt Porter Nash (Paddy Considine) to investigate a spate of police murders around London carried out by cop-hating nut-job Weiss played by Aiden Gillen (who plays treacherous snake Little-finger in GOT).

As with most Jason Statham films what-you-see-is-what-you-get with them which is Statham practicing his martial art skills on peoples faces with plenty of tough-guy talking & witty quips thrown in for good measure & this film is no different.Pretty good film overall. 6.5/10.

Evil Dead 2 : Dead By Dawn(1987)

Thanks to the skill of director Sam Raimi who managed to combine just the right amounts of slapstick comedy and buckets of gore,Evil Dead is a stand out in the over saturated, tongue in cheek horror genre that began to boom in the eighties. A simple and quite silly story that was basically a superior remake of the first film that is enhanced by a winderfully charasmatic performance from the underated Bruce Campbell.

Far From The Madding Crowd(2015) Based on the Thomas Hardy novel, new farm owner (Carey Mulligan) receives three offers of marriage, from a shepherd( Matthias Schoenaerts), a dashing soldier (Tom Sturridge) and a wealthy landowner(Michael Sheen). Sumptuously filmed in golden hues in Dorset, where it is set, this is finely acted by the four leads, and the characterisation is quite strong, although it takes longer than expected to develop the Michael Sheen character. Whether it was in the original novel I don't know, not having read it, but there is a noticeable feminist slant to the script. Beyond the leading actors, there is strong support from Jessica Barden as Mulligan's maid. Also starring Juno Temple and Tilly Vosburgh. 7/10

Mississippi Grind (2015) A down on his luck veteran gambler (Ben Mendelsohn) teams up with a new, younger partner (Ryan Reynolds) and they travel South through various gambling establishments. An easy paced comedy/drama with amusing, rather than laugh out loud moments and a good screen chemistry between the leads. it is Mendelsohn however, who is given a strong back story who steals the acting honours with a complex, watchable performance. There is fine support from the perhaps underrated Sienna Miller and a sweet performance from Analeigh Tipton. An interesting, mainly blues soundtrack too. Also starring Alfre Woodard,Robin Weigert and Marshall Chapman. 6.5/10

Persepolis (2007) A Iranian girl grows to womanhood in the time of The Shah and then the Islamic Revolution. An animation mostly in very striking and inventive black and white, which almost acts as an interesting, accessible potted history of Iran at that time, as well as a complex character study of a girl growing up in difficult times. It might sound a bit grim, but there's a strong current of humour running through it. With the voices of Chiara Mastroianni,Catherine Deneuve, Gena Rowlands,Danielle Darrieux and Simon Abkarian. 7.5/10

Boys Will Be Girls(1937)

Leslie Fuller strars as Bill,a carefree womanising, hard drinking and hard partying bachelor who must give up his debauchery in order to inherit a vast legacy.A really enjoyable old classic with smart lines and a great lead showing from Fuller.

The Hitman's Bodyguard

Saw this last night but what i'll say first of all that some reviews have been a little hard on the movie. You have to understand that comedy action films are hardly gonna be original or have oscar performance plot and acting.
Ryan Reynolds and Sam L Jackson weee great in the movie not only very funny together but a great chemistry. Salma Hayek was very funny in this too and you may recognise Élodie Yung who plays Elektra in Daredevil & The Defenders. Over all loads of action, gory, it's really funny and if you like Sam L Jackson saying Mother Fucker you'll love it, watch out for a very scene involving nuns Bounce

8.5/10.

North by northwest (1959)

Cary Grant stars as an advertising executive who is the victim of mistaken identity and is accused of a murder he didn't commit. He is pursued across America by both the police and the killers helped by a mysterious blonde who isn't all she seems. Also starring James Mason, Eva Marie Saint and Martin Landau, this is an excellent film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock at his very best and and with a score from Bernard Herrmann which really adds to the tension.
