Snow Flower And The Secret Fan(2011) A touching and absorbing movie, set in both 19th century feudal and modern China. In both time periods , a pair of women are matched as 'laotong' which means that are bonded as 'sisters' for life, and the film details their ups and downs. The film is beautifully shot, especially the 19th century scenes, and the switching between time periods works in the film's favour. The lead actresses, Bingbing Li & Ji-hyun Jun perform better in the earlier time period, maybe because the modern parts are partly spoken in English which is presumably their second language. Hugh Jackman has a supporting role in the modern scenes as one of the women's partner. 7/10

Wild Tales(2014) Six short stories directed by Damian Szifron. This is a well titled film as all six have moments of extreme and wild behaviour. They are all vividly and imaginatively shot ,compelling, often thrilling and some have comedy elements too. Some also have some good twists along the way. 7.5/10

Deadly Friend(1986)

A silly but enjoyable film from Wes Craven with the gorgeous Kristy Swanson,as a part robot, part zombie avenger.A lighthearted take on a saturated genre that should only be watched purely for laughs.

Felt like to me a cross between Transformers and Godzilla, one thing I have to say is the effects look amazing and the film looks stunning on Blu Ray my only little grip was it was a little predictable. The post credit scene at the end was really funny about the shoe lol

8.5/10.

Pacific Rim is superb. The whole thing is Guillermo Del Toro's loveletter to the japanese kaiju films and mecha anime he watched as a kid. It's also proof that you can do giant robots in films and they don't have to look like horrible jagged messes a la Michael Bay's Transformers. It's the film that led me back to my childhood love of Power Rangers and by extension, most of the Japanese shows and films I'm into now.

Also, I like Rinko Kikuchi.

To Catch A Thief(1955) Cary Grant plays a reformed cat thief, who when blamed for a spate of jewel robberies on the French Riviera, goes undercover to find the real culprit, and then falls for a society girl played by Grace Kelly. Beautifully shot(especially on a remastered DVD) both on location in France and the stunning nighttime rooftop scenes. This is a wittily scripted(with some innuendo) and beautifully performed movie, as well as Grant & Kelly, there's Jessie Royce Landis, the ever reliable John Williams and the cute Brigitte Auber. With Charles Vanel. 7.5/10
