Cargo(2009) Its the 23rd century, Earth is uninhabitable,Saturn's moon Rhea is now humanity's home and a group are on a cargo ship bound for a new home, but is there something or someone else on the ship and is there another agenda taking place? A very good looking Swiss scifi movie with effective use of claustrophobic camerawork inside the ship. There's certainly some inspiration from the Alien franchise in this film with an interesting if slightly convoluted mystery element involved. Unknown actress Anna Katherina Schwabroh puts in a strong lead performance. Also starring Martin Rapold,Regula Grauwiller, Yangzom Brauen & Maria Boettner. 6.5/10

Die,Monster,Die!(1965)

Daniel Haller's film, based on H.P.Lovecraft's story The Colour Of Space(1927)stars Boris Karloff and his stunt double as a victim of radiation exposure from a meteorite that impacted near him.Well acted and quite moving in places but not regarded as well as other classics starring Karloff.

I,Monster(1971)

A version of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hide only with different names.Director Stephen Weeks capitalises on the charisma and chemistry of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing to make this cheap effort pretty good fun.Mike Raven and Richard Hurndall are also enjoyable in supporting roles.

Rope(1948) Two college friends(John Dall & Farley Granger) strangle a fellow student in their apartment, place his body in a trunk, and then hold a party in that apartment, guests include their ex professor(James Stewart) and the victims father (Cedric Hardwicke). Directed by Hitchcock and based on a play, he filmed it as a play, except for an innovative experiment, it was shot in continuous takes, ten in all, covering the hour 15 minute running time of the film. This experiment works for me as the camera moves around a room or rooms avoiding the feel of a static play, in fact there a few neat camera shots in the course of the film. The script was above average, bringing a mixture of tension and black comedy, Dall getting many of the sharpest lines. Stewart is perhaps a bit conservative for the role of what is supposed to be a radical tutor, its probably his least Hitch performance, though he's still fine. Also starring Edith Evanson,Douglas Dick,Joan Chandler,Constance Collier and Dick Hogan (as the victim!). 7.5/10

Sherlock Holmes And The Deadly Necklace(1962)

Terence Fisher's German film sees Sherlock Holmes trying to stop Professor Moriarty from stealing Cleopatra's jewellery.A great cast including Christopher Lee,Thorley Walters and Senta Berger try their best and despite the chemistry between them and some nice elements,it never feels personable. This could be due to the dire dubbing that distracts throughout.

Suite Francaise(2014) It 1940 in the French village of Bussy, and a relationship develops between villager (Michelle Williams) and a German lieutenant (Matthias Scheonaerts) . An interesting study in what counts as collaboration, the degrees of collaboration and how conquered and occupied human beings behave. You might not agree with enemy/enemy romance(I didn't) but this is subtly and realistically portrayed by the two actors, who are playing two quite complex characters. There is plenty of fine acting throughout, including Kristen Scott-Thomas, Ruth Wilson, Margot Robbie & Sam Riley. With Clare Holman, Harriet Walter, Lambert Wilson & Tom Schilling. 7/10

Little Shop Of Horrors(1960)

Famously shot in just two days by Roger Corman, this offbeat and very funny comedy about a seemingly normal, small potted plant that grows rapidly and develops a taste for human flesh grabs the viewer's attention from the start ,all the way to the end.The witty and clever script, written by Charles B.Griffith is so effect it feels as though the actors adlibbed the entire thing(they didn't).A low budget gem with great work from Mel Welles,Jonathan Haze,Jackie Joseph,Dick Miller and a young Jack Nicholson.

8/10
