Yangtse Incident : The Story Of H.M.S. Amethyst(1957) During the Chinese Civil War the ship of the title is run aground after being fired on and having suffered casualties at the hands of the Communists. Richard Todd as Lt Commander Kerans is brought in to attempt to get the Amethyst afloat and to safety. A solidly entertaining, interesting film occasionally slipping into silly humour but with a tense conclusion. Also starring William Hartnell,Ian Bannen, Donald Houston, Keye Luke,James Kenney & Akim Tamiroff(badly miscast as the Chinese Communist colonel). 6/10

Folly To Be Wise(1952)

A really good comedy starring Alistair Sim in great form as Captain Paris,an army Chaplin who is put in charge of organising the entertainment for a group of rowdy soldiers. With Elizabeth Allan and Roland Culver who both shine in the comedy situations.

Live By Night (2017) The rise of a prohibition gangster in both Boston and Tampa. Ben Affleck does a decent job of directing, writing and starring in Dennis Lehane's excellent, ambitious novel, covering the meat of the book, with such issues as The American Dream, racism and religion. Some great cinematography and fine performances with Affleck mainly underplaying it in the title role with good support from Zoe Saldana, Chris Cooper, Remo Girone,Robert Glenister,Matthew Maher & Chris Messina. The two most striking performances, however come from Sienna Miller as Affleck's cynical early lover and Elle Fanning as a teenage preacher. Also starring Brendan Gleeson. 7.5/10

Underworld: Blood Wars

The fifth film in the Underworld franchise and is very enjoyable from start to finish. Kate Beckinsale is again a badass as Selene and the action & special effects are very good.

From Here To Eternity (1953) Its 1941 in Hawaii and tensions rise on a US army base as newbie private Montgomery Clift won't join the boxing team while the captain's wife(Deborah Kerr) and the captain's second in command(Burt Lancaster) start an affair. A finely acted drama giving a perceptive look into the dynamics of an army working environment. Mostly remembered for the Kerr/Lancaster beach scene. As well as the above actors, there's an enjoyable scene stealing performance from Frank Sinatra, and also Donna Reed who shows good chemistry in her scenes with Clift, plus good work from Ernest Borgnine. Also starring Jack Warden & Philip Ober. 7/10
