Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome(1985) In the third film, Max arrives at Barter City and comes up against Aunty Entity(Tina Turner). The least of the four films, plays more like an action/adventure movie than sci fi, generally missing the apocalyptic feel of the first two films, and the strong vehicle chases of 2 and 4, and some of the violence seems like slapstick, perhaps to capture the family audience. Neither Turner's acting and singing are much good. The ending is pretty good. Also starring Bruce Spence,Frank Thring,Angelo Rossitto ,Paul Larsson & Angry Anderson. 5/10

The Falling (2014) In a girl's school in 1969, a tragedy is followed by mass hysteric fainting. Presumably, the director/writer Carol Morley was aiming for an atmospheric mood piece perhaps like an updated version of Picnic At Hanging Rock, but it doesn't attain that mood, the fainting becomes repetitive, the script is too wordy (too many people spouting poetry) and the characters don't really engage. The good stuff? The performances are pretty good, especially Maisie Williams, indeed her and her screen mother, Maxine Peake (criminally underused) might have been a good basis for a strong film. Tracey Thorn's soundtrack is good too. Also starring Florence Pugh, Anna Burnett,Greta Scacchi,Monica Dolan, Mathew Baynton & Morfydd Clark. 5/10

The Big Job(1965)

A very witty comedy about a gang of crooks who after being caught on a bank job,are sentenced to 15 years in prison.Upon release, they reunite only to learn that their loot that was waiting for them from a previous robbery,is now buried under a police station. With funny performances from a great cast including Sidney James,Dick Emery,Joan Sims and Sylvia Syms.

An American Haunting (2005) Based on an apparently true story, a witch's curse supposedly plagues a family with supernatural events. Although not very scarey this film packs plenty into its 1hr 20 minutes, with at times dizzying camerawork and an inventive storyline. The time setting, 19th century USA( in a God fearing time) helps as does a good cast, Sissy Spacek, Donald Sutherland, James D'Arcy,Rachel Hurd-Wood, Matthew Marsh, Thom Fell & Gaye Brown. 7/10

It's a Wonderful World(1956)

A classic comedy from director Val Guest starring Terence Morgan and George Cole as two composers that are struggling to progress in their profession. Whilst trying to come up with ideas they end up producing music backwards to great success.Kathleen Harrison also provides the laughs in a strong supporting role.
