Suicide Squad

The best film so far in the DC Extended Universe & for me the best comicbook film of 2016 so far (yes it's better in my opinion than Batman v Superman, Deadpool & X-Men Apocalypse)

It's a fantastic fun entertaining romp from start to finish with very good special effects & action sequences. The standout stars from the cast are Margot Robbie who steals the show as Harley Quinn & Will Smith who gives one of his best performances in years as Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot. Jared Leto is very good as The Joker.

There is a mid-credits scene to tie it into the DCEU

See it ASAP!!

10/10

Blood Ties (2013) Set in the 1970s in Brooklyn where one brother (Billy Crudup) is a policeman while the other (Clive Owen) is in organised crime. Despite a wealth of acting talent this is a fairly unoriginal tale, a bit overlong with characters you don't really invest in. A good soundtrack, though. Also starring Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis,Matthais Schoenaerts, Zoe Saldana, James Caan,Noah Emmerich, Lili Taylor & Domenick Lombardozzi 5/10

Quest for Fire(1981)

Jean Jacques Annaud's ambitious film about early man features some nice makeup effects but is also unintentionally funny in places. The scene where Rae Dawn Chong teaches her mate the missionary position is hilarious.Overall the film features great cinematography and it's heart is in the right place but it never manages to do justice to the 1911 novel by J,-H,Rosny.

The Exorcist (1973) Two priests, one of whom is troubled himself attempt to help a girl supposedly possessed by The Devil. A film which influenced countless ones to follow with such tricks as a girl with a man's voice & moving furniture, it still has the power to make you jump & frighten you 40 years on. What helps is the slow start which gives the main character's back stories, and the superb acting, particularly Ellen Burstyn as the mother, Linda Blair as the daughter & Jason Miller as the troubled priest. Good use of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells too. Also starring Max Von Sydow, Lee J Cobb & Jack MacGowran. 7.5/10

BvS - 7.5/8 out of 10.

Nowhere near as bad as some critics said. I like Affleck's Batman, provided that the Batman film is good, he'll be second to Keaton for me. Superman was fine, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Women was great, I think her film will be awesome.
Despite the length of the film, I think it was still a bit busy, yes it was over two hours long, but felt a bit crammed like a 90 minute film. In saying that, I'm not sure what they could have done differently, as I think everything was necessary, nothing felt like it didn't belong and some of the things were to aid the DCEU.

Jack The Ripper(1959)

Robert S.Baker's film is a straightforward account of Britain's most infamous serial killer.Considered very brutal when it was first released, its violence is rather tame for today's jaded audience.Good performances from Lee Patterson,Eddie Byrne,Betty McDowall and Ewan Solon.

Super 8 (2011) Strange unexplained events occur in a small town following a train crash which is filmed by kids. JJ Abrams made this fairly likeable & entertaining film before Star Trek & Star Wars, it feels like a typical Speilberg movie, who produced it, but is helped by strong lead performances from Elle Fanning & Joel Courtney. With Ryan Lee, Riley Griffiths,Kyle Chandler & Ron Eldard. 6/10
