Goliath and the Dragon[aka La Vendetta do Ercole[(1960)

Vittorio Cottafavi directed this Italian sword and sandal epic that not only features a pretty impressive dragon,it also has Broderick Crawford putting in a great turn as King Eurystheus. Also starring Mike Forest.

Horrors of the Black Museum(1959)

Michael Gough is an author with his own private museum of torture devices. He hypnotises his assistant to commit an escalating series of horrible crimes so that he can merely have something to write about.A spookily shot and genuinely creepy film directed by Arthur Crabtree.

Good film, great actor. I was only watching him in the first three Batman films just last week. If I haven't mentioned it already, you may like " What a Carve Up! " He is also in that.

As Financial Domination continues to grow, less enthusiasm is required when putting on a show.

Vera Drake(2004) Directed by Mike Leigh the title role is played excellently by Imelda Staunton as a working class woman performing illegal abortions in 1950 London. The film is made more powerful by the downbeat, low key, matter of fact way it is directed. An amazing cast includes Phil Davis, Eddie Marsan, Daniel Mays, Alex Kelly,Adrian Scarborough, Peter Wight & Heather Craney. 7.5/10

Loot(1970)

A really good comedy about two men who are planning a bank robbery but can't think of a suitable place to hide the loot.Richard Attenborough,Hywel Bennett and Lee Remick all excel in the main roles.Based on the play by Joe Orton.

The Return of Dr.X(1939)

Vincent Sherman directed Humphrey Bogart as the brilliant Dr.Xavier, who needs a rare blood type in order to stay alive and resorts to immoral actions to get it..The was the only time in his career that Bogart acted in a horror film.Shame because he puts in a confident and convincing performance in this.

The Last Sunset(1961) A Robert Aldrich directed Western in which gun for hire Kirk Douglas & lawman Rock Hudson help drive a cattle owner's( Joseph Cotten) herd from Mexico to America. This is complicated by the fact Douglas still loves Cotten's wife played by Dorothy Malone and Hudson wishes to bring in Douglas for the killing of his brother in law. Douglas is always watchable but the film is overlong due to the romantic sub plots and the script is occasionally waffley. Also starring Carol Lynley,Jack Elam & Neville Brand 5.5/10

Man From Tangier(1957)

Lance Comfort directed this film about a guy named Chuck Collins.Who finds himself as the main suspect in a passport forging racket just by taking the wrong coat accidentally.A very well acted and suspenseful drama starring Robert Hutton,Martin Benson and Lisa Gastoni.

The Food Of The Gods(1976)

Bert I.Gordon directed this very low rent and very loose adaptation of the excellent H.G Wells novel,The Food of the Gods and How It came to Earth(1904).Despite some good moments here and there,Gordon didn't have enough of a budget to do justice to Well's novel and it just looks all too cheap.

Before The Winter Chill (2013) A classy, subtle French drama directed & written by Philippe Claudel in which a middle class couple's routine life starts to unravel. Superb turns by Kristin Scott Thomas & Daniel Auteuil but I particularly enjoyed the complex performance of Leila Bekhti. Also starring Richard Berry & Anne Metzler 7.5/10
